As our Machine Shop Supervisor, you are responsible for leading day-to-day machining operations, guiding a team of skilled machinists and operators, and ensuring high-precision component production meets strict safety, quality, and delivery standards. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Production Performance: Direct daily machine shop shift operations to ensure production schedules, setup times, and output targets are met while maintaining strict quality and customer delivery standards.
  • ERP & Timecard Reconciliation: Accountable for daily audit and reconciliation of operator ERP labor hours against timecard records to ensure accurate labor tracking and reduce cost variances. 
  • Tier Boards & Visual Management: Maintain mandatory Tier board meetings on weekend shifts—matching weekday standards—to track cell performance, identify headcount and resource gaps, drive continuous improvement, and ensure seamless pass-down notes between cell leads across shifts.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor daily shift KPIs (OEE, scrap, downtime) and implement immediate, localized countermeasures to keep production on track.
    • Technology Implementation: Lead the floor-level rollout and adoption of new machining technologies, tooling, and automated processes to improve shift productivity and precision.
    • Continuous Improvement: Monitor daily shift KPIs (OEE, scrap, downtime) and implement immediate, localized countermeasures to keep production on track.
    • Quality & Accountability: Enforce strict individual accountability for part quality across all shifts, ensuring every machinist performs required metrology inspections and executes proper first-piece buy-offs before running production. Foster an open shop floor culture where employees are expected and comfortable to ask questions immediately whenever in doubt. 
    • Safety & Compliance: Enforce daily safety protocols, conduct floor safety audits, immediately address hazards, and lead shift-level incident investigations and corrective actions.
    • Performance Management: Provide real-time coaching, conduct regular performance check-ins, and address skill gaps or behavioral issues directly on the floor.

 

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Work directly with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Control, Maintenance, and Toolroom teams to resolve daily floor bottlenecks and keep machines running.
  • Team Communication: Lead daily shift-change huddles and pass-down logs to ensure seamless handoffs, clear priorities, and transparent operational updates.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is preferred
  • Experience:  7+ years of experience in machine shop environment or 5+ years of experience as Process Engineer (or similar position) in manufacturing environment.
  • CAMWORKS experience a plus
  • Industry Domain: Aerospace/Defense manufacturing.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Current ITAR compliance training and strict adherence required.

 

  • Certifications: 7+ years of experience in machine shop environment or 5+ years of experience as Process Engineer (or similar position) in manufacturing environment.
  • Systems Proficiency: Google Workspace, SmartView, ADP
  • Core Competencies: Strategic planning, executive reporting, cross-functional collaboration,Strong documentation/record keeping skills, Advanced blueprint reading, metrology and inspection skills required
