REPORT To: Director of Special Education 

 

General Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, a Paraprofessionals will work with students with disabilities and special needs by providing academic and behavioral support in the classroom.

At 360 Community Services, Paraprofessionals assume the professional responsibility of providing supervision of students in a safe, supportive and positive classroom climate that develops in each student the skills,

attitudes, and knowledge to ensure individualized programs are being followed and process towards IEP goals is met.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Special Education Director and Coordinator to plan, organize, and implement specific assignments and activities in accordance with IEP goals and providing and/or modifying instruction/curriculum
  • Follows daily schedule and school procedures, as well as implements student programming, as directed
  • Monitors student behavior, intervening when appropriate and supporting the student while working individually or in small groups
  • Implements and has the ability to perform approved de-escalation and physical intervention techniques as
  • Carry out self-care programs with students including toileting duties, feeding, tooth brushing and grooming
  • Ability to assist students in completion of a wide range of academic subjects including Functional Math (ex. Counting money, telling time, ), Functional Reading (reading street signs, job ads, etc.), Daily Living, employment, and levels
  • Maintains accurate documentation of activities, student progress, and behavior modification plans
  • Implements communication tools that allow for good information exchange with students with special needs
  • Interacts with all internal and external customers in a friendly and professional manner
  • Maintains immaculate cleanliness standards in classrooms and restrooms
  • Prepares instructional materials required
  • Assisting students with vocational training by providing job coaching
  • The ability to be flexible, function as a team member, and take initiative when
  • Maintain good interpersonal relations with peers and a wide variety of professional staff affiliated with program
  • Interact/communicate and engage with students as directed by professional staff
  • Must be able to travel to different places around town as needed with work van or personal
  • Participates in professional development/continuing education programs as required/recommended by the Special Education Director and/or Director of Training
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 20 years
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities in a special education setting (preferred)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Current vehicle insurance upon request
  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a State & Federal background

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Possess the manual dexterity, physical ability, and stamina for a full day of various physical activity that may include frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 25 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be
  • Must have the ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; and the ability to understand and follow oral and written
