As a Global Indirect Tax Compliance Lead for the Global Tax Division, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world.
The Global Indirect Tax Compliance Lead reports to the Global Indirect Tax Leader and oversees indirect tax compliance outside the United States within a co-sourced model, with return preparation outsourced to a third-party provider. The role has end-to-end responsibility for ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent compliance, while driving continuous improvement. Key priorities include managing the transition to the outsourced provider, overseeing the contract, resolving complex issues, and improving the quality of data supporting indirect tax reporting.
A central focus of the role is to actively manage the transition to the outsource provider, manage the contract, drive resolution of complex issues, and enhance the quality, integrity, and usability of underlying data that supports indirect tax reporting.
Lead the relationship with the outsourced indirect tax compliance provider, overseeing performance, service delivery, and contract adherence.
Set and monitor SLAs, KPIs, and quality standards to ensure effective compliance delivery.
Manage regional indirect tax compliance leads and support internal stakeholders with guidance on compliance requirements and best practices.
Lead transitions for new jurisdictions, acquisitions, and business changes.
Oversee the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of indirect tax filings outside the United States, including VAT, GST, and sales tax.
Review provider outputs, focusing on high-risk jurisdictions, complex transactions, and material balances.
Identify and mitigate compliance risks, including audit exposure and process gaps.
Coordinate responses to tax authority audits and inquiries with providers and internal stakeholders.
Act as the main escalation point for compliance issues and drive timely, sustainable resolution.
Lead continuous improvement in compliance processes, data quality, and reporting effectiveness.
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who meet following minimum requirements:
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field; relevant tax qualification is advantageous.
Significant experience in global indirect tax compliance (VAT/GST), ideally within a manufacturing, distribution, or supply chain-driven environment.
Experience managing outsourced/SSC compliance providers in an oversight and managerial capacity.
Practical experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP), including tax codes, reporting, and data extraction.
Strong understanding of transactional data flows relevant to indirect tax reporting.
Additional knowledge / nice-to-have skills / preferred qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and desire to collaborate across the function and organization.
Experience in a large multinational with significant physical supply chains.
Proven ability to use analytics and influencing skills to drive results.
Exhibited sense of urgency to drive effective change and manage performance.
Location Information: Global role (outside US responsibility)
Travel expectations: May include up to 5% domestic/international
This role has on-site working model, with the employee working at least four days a week in the relevant 3M office located in Bracknell, UK or Kajetany/Wroclaw, Poland
