3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic is a community-based agency providing youth in the Bayview Hunters Point with medical and behavioral health services that encourage them to make decisions that support their health, safety, and development. 3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic also manages a number of successful Transitional Age Youth (TAY) housing stabilization programs and one of the city’s few Youth Access Points.

Responsibilities

Provide daily program support to residents as they navigate the program and work towards achieving housing, education, employment, health, and other self-identified goals. Oversee the program and work as part of a team in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and policies of 3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic. 

The following is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the Program Monitor. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned as needed.

  • Conduct thorough rounds and supervise program activities to ensure safety of residents.
  • Provide information to residents about community services available to transition age youth experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. 
  • Responsible for understanding and following program and agency policies and procedures. 
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate logs, shift reports, and incident report records using web-based programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of residents, staff, and agency.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent delivery of services.
  • Support team members and residents in problem solving, conflict resolution, and de-escalation.
  • Maintain program entry protocol for residents, service providers, and visitors.
  • Rotate through assigned post positions.
  • Perform restocking of kitchen and supplies.
  • Always represent the organization professionally. 
  • Model positive behavior for residents and team members.
  • Provide positive engagement with residents, team members, service providers, and the public.
  • Complete assigned training within specified time frames.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills by accurately and thoroughly documenting and conveying important information, employing active listening, and asking questions for clarification. 
  • Manage time and assignments effectively to ensure task completion. 
  • Demonstrate reliability by being present for work as scheduled, arriving and leaving on time and taking breaks in expected time frames. 
  • Demonstrate cultural competence with individuals of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, religious views, gender identities, and sexual orientations, treating all residents with respect and dignity. 
  • Work as a team to promote and develop a team-oriented environment. 
  • Make decisions that are consistent with the mission, philosophy, and policies of 3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of program protocols and procedures. 
  • Attend agency and program staff meetings.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate crisis situations.
  • Understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, behavioral health, and trauma.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of services available to individuals experiencing homelessness in San Francisco or the demonstrated ability to obtain such knowledge.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.

    Education and Experience

  • At least one year of experience working in social services, preferably serving vulnerable populations, youth, or people with behavioral health issues.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.

    Physical demands

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the agency.
  • Must be able to lift to 35 pounds.
  • Must be available to work on weekends, Friday through Sunday, working swing (2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.), or overnight (10:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.) shifts.
  • This position is part-time and non-exempt.
  • This position is based on-site at our JustHome program location in San Francisco's BVHP neighborhood.
  • This position reports to the Residential Program Manager

This position has an hourly rate of $26.44 (annualized salary $55,000)
