The Bond Specialist supports these values by ensuring the accurate and timely administration of customs bonds and Powers of Attorney while providing responsive service to customers and internal stakeholders.
As part of the Trade Compliance Services (TCS) Department within the Regulatory Affairs Team, this position is responsible for managing bond applications, renewals, and compliance-related documentation; monitoring bond sufficiency; maintaining regulatory records; and serving as a key liaison between customers, sureties, and Deringer teams. The Bond Specialist plays an important role in helping customers meet customs requirements, minimize compliance risks, and maintain uninterrupted import operations.
Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering accurate, efficient, and customer-focused solutions while supporting Deringer's culture of excellence and partnership.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Process customs bond applications, renewals, billings, and related documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- →Monitor bond sufficiency reports, evaluate customer import activity, and recommend bond adjustments to maintain compliance.
- →Communicate with customers regarding bond requirements, renewals, insufficiencies, and related compliance matters.
- →Review, maintain, and administer Powers of Attorney (POAs) in accordance with CBP regulations and company policies.
- →Maintain accurate bond files, records, reports, and supporting documentation.
- →Serve as the primary point of contact for surety providers and assist in resolving bond-related issues and inquiries.
- →Process Canadian Customs Bonds and related documentation in accordance with applicable requirements.
- →Provide guidance and support to Operations teams, ports, and other internal stakeholders on bond and POA matters.
- →Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, sureties, and internal business partners through responsive and professional service.
- →Stay current on customs bond requirements, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
- →Support departmental initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Customs Compliance, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately process and maintain bond, billing, and compliance documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers, surety providers, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong customer service and relationship management skills, with a commitment to delivering timely and professional support.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of customs bond requirements, Powers of Attorney (POAs), and applicable U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.
- Understanding of bond sufficiency requirements and the ability to analyze customer import activity to identify compliance needs.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately process, review, and maintain bond, billing, and compliance-related documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, surety providers, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills, with a commitment to delivering responsive, professional support.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to research, analyze, and resolve bond-related issues while exercising sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Operations teams, ports, sureties, and other business partners.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, adapt to changing priorities, and uphold Deringer's values of integrity, expertise, accountability, collaboration, and exceptional client service.
