This innovative program provides exceptional support of nursing students in a Nurse Extern II role; assisting develop skills and knowledge prior to graduation. Through in-depth precepted experiences on three different specialty units at St. Luke's Medical Center; the program provides in depth experience and information to assist you in determining the "Best Fit" to start your career.

Applicants will work in a cohort with support and collaboration from RN Preceptors and educators throughout the program.

In collaboration with the Best Fit Program Manager, three specialty units at St. Luke's Medical Center will be selected for the unit rotations.

Participants will work providing patient care with a RN preceptor on 3 Specialty units, for 5 weeks (one 8-hour shift per week on days). The program progression is for a total of 16 weeks.

Through a Realistic Job Preview of each unit's nursing workflow, you will determine which unit offer best fits your career goals for longevity in that specialty unit. Transition seamlessly from a Nurse Extern II into a RN role.
Current enrollment with Dec. 2026 anticipated graduation of an accredited nursing program.
Successful completion of a Medical Surgical Course that includes pharmacological concepts.
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities/workload necessary.
BLS certification.
