The ideal candidate will have experience in:
• Primary immune cell isolation, culture, and stimulation
• Flow cytometry and immunoassay execution (ELISA, ELISpot, multiplex cytokine)
• Hydrogel and biomaterial scaffold preparation and characterization
• Data collection and analysis for complex biological systems
This position offers unique opportunities to:
• Work with state-of-the-art organ-on-chip and microfluidic integration technology
• Contribute to New Approach Methodologies that reduce reliance on animal testing
• Participate in research that directly supports vaccine and medical countermeasure development
• Gain experience with engineered immune tissues, biosensing, and multi-OTE integrated systems
• Join a collaborative research environment at a leading regenerative medicine institute
The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) seeks a Research
Laboratory Technician IV to join the ImmuneChip program, which develops microfluidic organ tissue equivalent (OTE) platforms for vaccine efficacy testing. The position focuses on the lymph node OTE, an engineered immune tissue that supports antigen presentation and antibody production, and on its integration with bone marrow, muscle, and airway OTEs into a functional immune cascade. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to research that advances preclinical vaccine evaluation without
animal testing.
Under general supervision, the successful candidate will:
• Execute complex experimental protocols for lymph node OTE fabrication, maturation, and
functional testing, including hydrogel and scaffold-based tissue assembly
• Isolate and culture primary human immune and stromal cells, including B cells, T cells, dendritic
cells, fibroblastic reticular cells, and endothelial cells
• Conduct immune functional analyses including multiparameter flow cytometry, ELISA and
ELISpot, multiplex cytokine assays, antigen-specific and neutralizing antibody measurement, and
immunohistochemistry
• Support microfluidic culture, perfusion, and integration of the lymph node OTE with other tissue
modules, and participate in experimental design and optimization
• Provide technical guidance to other laboratory personnel
Bachelor's degree in the Biological and/or Physical Sciences with four years of related chemical/research experience. Master's degree in Biology or related Physical Science with two years of laboratory experience preferred.
