This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in CHR Corporate Human Resources division. This is not a remote role.

The Manager, HR Communications plays a key role in connecting Abbott’s 122,000+ employees to the programs, benefits and experiences that support their growth and development, and helps them take care of themselves and their families. The role serves as a relationship manager to the U.S. Benefits team and provides strategic consulting to HR leadership, project leads and department heads. This position also develops project plans to support key global HR programs and local communication strategies. This position works in an energetic team setting, balances multiple priorities and may lead cross-functional teams and direct internal or external contributors to deliver communication initiatives.

The role reports to the Director, HR Communications.

Responsibilities

The Manager, HR Communications:

  • Identifies, develops, and executes integrated communication strategies and campaigns that connect employees to our HR benefits and programs and drives awareness, understanding, and adoption.

  • Identifies and amplifies employee stories to bring HR benefits and programs to life and demonstrate real-world impact.

  • Creates and oversees engaging content across multiple channels (email, intranet, video, talking points, etc.).

  • Measures and evaluates communication effectiveness, using insights to continuously improve engagement, reach, and impact.

  • Manages relationships with internal and external communication partners (Public Affairs, Corporate Communications, HR personnel, outside contractors, etc.).

  • Collaborates closely with a global team of HR communicators to support our programs and benefits worldwide and helps deliver our HR strategy.

The Manager, HR Communications, serves primarily as a relationship manager to our U.S. Benefits team and provides communications expertise and counsel for assigned clients, projects, programs or vehicles. The role has responsibility for developing plans and strategies designed to achieve results, writing and producing a variety of communications materials, and managing projects. The manager, HR Communications, must closely influence clients and coordinate with teammates to meet deadlines and HR Communication goals.

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, public relations or other communication-related major.

8-10 years of experience with increasing responsibility in multiple communication roles in corporate or agency setting. Experience working with senior management a must. Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic counsel as well as tactical excellence in employee communications, executive communications and relationship management a must. Prior experience with HR communications, especially with U.S. healthcare benefits, strongly preferred. Requires strong project management skills, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, diplomacy, and multitasking ability.
