Our Established Pharmaceuticals Division (EPD) is looking for a Senior Trademark Counsel to join our global team and play a key role in shaping and protecting our brands worldwide.
About the Role
~1 min readThis is a high-impact leadership position where you will guide Abbott’s global trademark strategy across diverse markets and therapeutic areas. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership, contributing both legal expertise and business insight.
You’ll lead a globally distributed team and help ensure that our brands continue to deliver trust and value to patients around the world.
Responsibilities

Lead and manage Abbott’s global trademark portfolio, including clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and protection

Provide strategic advice on branding, trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, and domain names

Partner closely with marketing, regulatory, and senior business leaders worldwide

Support complex, multi-national transactions and due diligence activities

Review and negotiate trademark-related contractual provisions

Lead and mentor a diverse, international team of legal professionals

Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture

Law degree and significant experience in trademark law (typically ~10+ years)
Experience managing complex global portfolios or projects
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Ability to balance legal expertise with commercial thinking
Confidence working across cultures and time zones
Fluency in English; additional languages (e.g. Spanish) are a plus
Experience in life sciences or regulated industries is beneficial—but not essential
Thoughtful leadership and a collaborative mindset
Strong relationship-building skills and emotional intelligence
The ability to influence stakeholders with clarity and empathy
Comfort navigating complexity and change in a global environment
