Job Summary

It is a critical role in COOs function in commercial Operations, Transaction Processing Team.
To ensure timely and accurate processing of foreign paper payments, inward and outward electronic payments both local and foreign.

• To investigate, process and reconcile all Vostro and NOSTRO outstanding transactions.
• To be the first point of contact for all correspondent banking SWIFT messages related to enquiries and investigations.
• Plus any other duties that may be assigned by line manager from time to time.•


  • Processing on international payments above 2000$ and its equivalent that are in the scope of advance income tax
  • Able to resolve queries relating to advance income tax
  • Preparing a monthly return for clients that are non compliant and submission of the report to finance before cut off.
  • Raising and authorizing manual and SFI entries on all currencies on NOSTRO.
  • Processing of MT199/MT202 and MT299’s
  • Processing of direct charges off NOSTRO accounts.
  • Investigate all returned cross border funds and advise branches and relationship managers on all findings as per SLA.
  • Reconstruction of all returned funds processed via integrator, internet banking, by various branches and inward returns.
  • Responding to all SWIFT queries received from correspondent banks.
  • Advise compliance on all outstanding items on NOSTRO which are results of sanctions delay.
  • Preparing breakdowns of NOSTRO outstanding items related to individual desks for management action.
  • ACM-you will be required to perform any other work assigned to you in line with AOM, plus any other duties that may be provided by line manager from time to time.
  • Ensure that you look at NOSTRO and other suspense accounts that affect your role , investigate and resolve all outstandings
  • Ensure that you adhere to the FTOs and SDV  policies when processing your work
  • Preparing team returns and MI, and EOD Report.
  • Understand risks and controls of domestic payments roles, including circulars and compliance policies.
  • Actively participate in team events and morning hurdles  
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Absa Operational Risk Framework and internal Absa Policies and Standards.                                                                                            

Work closely with team members as one team to deliver excellent performance and actively participate in team events and morning hurdles.

  • Maintain good records on Unpaid cheques as well as those that have been unpaid and referred.
  • Check ,verify and authorise entries at least and exceed the target for Financial statistics as set in PD.
  • Call Over at least and exceed the target for Non Financial statistics as set in PD. Callover done by comparing datasheets against the A005, A006, A024 after which the Reports must be signed off as proof.

Preferred: Bachelor`s Degree and professional qualification

Essential: Advanced Diploma or Diploma in relevant professional qualification (Banking, Economics, Business administration, etc)

 

  •  Minimum 1 year work experience.

·       Awareness of cultural differences and varying legal/regulatory environments.

·       Banking or Financial services industry related knowledge.

·       Knowledge of bank book- keeping processes.

·       Working knowledge of NOSTRO, VOSTRO and BOZ CDA accounts.

·       Knowledge of reconciliation processes

·       Knowledge of SWIFT transaction formatting.

·       Customer services - TCF

·       Thorough knowledge of the banks typing standards and customer service standards.

·       Very good understanding of the COO’s/ team’s preferred style.

·       A good understanding of the banks general policies and procedures.

·       Understanding of the use of equipment, filing procedures.

·       A sound understanding of the Clearing Rules

·       Clear understanding reconciliation business rules.

·       Understanding of Bank’s policies and procedures.

·       Working knowledge of the Bank’s processing systems, including the Sybrin system, Laser Archive and FOS
