Job Summary

The Treasury Operations Officer is responsible for safeguarding Absa Uganda’s balance sheet integrity and upholding its market credibility through the accurate, timely, and controlled settlement of Treasury transactions. Operating within the Treasury back office, the role ensures the efficient execution of money market, fixed income, foreign exchange (FX), and investment transactions, while maintaining strict adherence to internal controls, regulatory requirements, and established market standards.

  • Accurately capture, approve, and authorize Treasury transactions across designated systems in line with assigned approval limits and delegated authorities.

  • Monitor transactions across online channels and Front Arena (FA) workflows to ensure processing within agreed SLAs.

  • Settle Treasury trades in Front Arena, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.

  • Independently verify deal details, including amounts, currencies, counterparties, and accounts, as initiated by customers or front-office inputters.

  • Validate exchange rate conversions against source documentation and approved rate sheets.

  • Reconfirm rates with the Markets team and Front Office via formal channels (email and recorded calls), ensuring audit and control integrity.

  • Complete trade alignment to confirm deal integrity across front-, middle-, and back-office systems.

  • Generate and distribute mid rates, customer rates, branch rates, TV rates, closing rates, and weekend rates to relevant stakeholders in a timely and controlled manner.

  • Upload approved rates to branch screens and coordinate with IT to ensure accurate system reflection.

  • Share and upload Treasury Bill rates following each auction and advise Sparrow rates in collaboration with IT.

  • Authorize and confirm rates in BAPS for online-initiated transactions.

  • Monitor and advise Nostro account balances to key stakeholders to support effective liquidity management and funding decisions.

  • Reconcile margin calls and proactively engage relevant parties to ensure timely settlement.

  • Open and maintain CSD accounts within the CSD system.

  • Onboard customers as counterparties in Front Arena, ensuring completeness of KYC and contractual documentation.

  • Apply SDS IDs and ensure proper document indexing through the activity tracker.

  • Generate GEFU instructions for coupon payments, maturities, and withholding tax (WHT) reversals.

  • Perform monthly brokerage reconciliations and liaise with Finance to effect timely payments to service providers.

  • Manually post applicable taxes following fixed deposit settlements where system automation is not available.

  • Upload End-of-Day (EOD) files into FCR to support accurate financial reporting and reconciliations.

  • Conduct voice logger checks and share findings with Front Office and Middle Office to support market conduct and regulatory compliance.

  • Sign and manage long-term dealing mandates, confirmations, and client agreements in line with approved authority.

  • Ensure all activities are executed in compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards, with zero tolerance for control breaches.

  • Immediate logging of system issues affecting the customers and ensuring that they are followed up to resolution. Logging issues should be evidenced by an incident Number from Technology and a reference from customer service team.

  • Go an extra mile by ensuring that Trade deals are BO confirmed within 30mins of receipt of instruction and resolving any issues that would cause any delays timely.

  • Support customers complete Treasury bills and bonds applications

  • Attend to walk in Treasury bills and bonds customers.

  • Receive treasury bills and bonds applications from Branches.

  • Seek and follow up on Treasury approval for all client applications received.

  • Contact customers to advise them of processed instruments/documents/advice.

  • Resolve any client queries on the treasury back-office Operations mailing group

  • Maintain operational efficiency and controls within the customer support area as per Operational Procedures Guidelines

  • Perform CPA checks as assigned by the manager.

  • Generate daily MI to identify any performance gaps.

  • Ensure timely review of reconciliation MI, resolution and ownership of any issues arising during processing of Payments as well as timely resolution of any exceptions logged.

  • Maintain a strong control environment through adherence to process manuals, the performance of snap checks and timely reporting of potential or actual risk events.

  • Ensure prompt response to both internal and external audit and operational risk queries.

  • Understand and follow existing process manuals and Payments Best Practices Standards

  • Provide ways and means of challenging the way we have always done our things. Challenge the status quo. Support an empowering climate within the team. Share knowledge, experience, best practice, and provision of constructive feedback as required and when necessary.

  • Support and adopt the implementation of change initiatives In Trade back office.

  • Provide suggestions to the line manager on improvements and solutions based on knowledge of the Trade value chain.

  • Provide support to the Team Leader ensuring effective teamwork across the Treasury Operations

  • Set own personal development goal objectives and completed all required actions to achieve banks Objectives.

  • Continuously look for opportunities to further develop own skills and expand knowledge base in trade finance.

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are conducted in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Treasury Operations Manual, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards. Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in  a business  related  course

  • 3years’ experience in Treasury Operations or related field

  • Proven record in delivering results against set targets.

  • A proven record of delivering world class service in a cost-effective manner.
