Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager – PostgreSQL DBA to own the day-to-day health, performance, and governance of our PostgreSQL environments running on Azure and AWS. This is an operational excellence role — ensuring our databases are stable, well-tuned, secure, and governed by clear policies that scale with the organization. The ideal candidate is a disciplined operator who collaborates closely with development, data engineering, security, and cloud infrastructure teams.

Roles & Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary owner of all production and non-production PostgreSQL instances on Azure Database for PostgreSQL (Flexible Server) and AWS RDS / Aurora PostgreSQL.
Monitor database health, availability, and resource utilization daily using Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, and PostgreSQL-level tooling.
Manage routine maintenance
Respond to and resolve database incidents and alerts lead root cause analyses for recurring or critical issues.
Coordinate with application and infrastructure teams to support deployments, schema changes, and environment refreshes.
Maintain up-to-date documentation of all environments, configurations, and operational runbooks.

Professional & Technical Skills:
Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks through query analysis, execution plan reviews (EXPLAIN ANALYZE), and workload profiling.
Establish and enforce indexing best practices — covering indexes, partial indexes, composite indexes — and regularly review index effectiveness.
Tune PostgreSQL configuration parameters appropriate to each cloud platform's workload profile.
Implement and maintain connection pooling strategies.
Define performance baselines and SLOs.
Partner with development teams during design and code review on query design, ORM usage, and schema optimization.


Additional Information:
15+ years of overall database experience with 8–10+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL DBA experience.
Azure: Demonstrated experience managing PostgreSQL on both
Proven production experience with Azure Database for PostgreSQL and AWS RDS / Aurora PostgreSQL.
Deep expertise in PostgreSQL internals — MVCC, WAL, autovacuum, query planner, locking, and bloat management.
