The Opportunity: International Tax Manager, Tax Operations
At Adobe, we empower the world's most creative minds through digital experiences that shape the future! Our Global Tax team plays a critical role in enabling that innovation, delivering high-quality tax solutions that support growth across 50+ countries.
We're seeking a hands-on, analytical professional to lead Adobe's U.S. withholding tax function and drive the systems and processes behind it. Reporting to the Director of U.S. International Tax and based in San Jose, this role pairs technical execution with a strong operations and technology mandate: building, improving, and scaling the platforms and workflows that keep Adobe's tax function accurate and efficient. You will coordinate Pillar Two compliance and assist with related provision work. You will manage U.S. transfer pricing allocations and support the broader U.S. international tax compliance and provision cycle. You will also contribute to M&A integration and other cross-functional initiatives. You're a self-starter who takes initiative, owns problems end to end, and drives workstreams forward with minimal oversight, defining the approach and aligning partners rather than waiting for direction.
As tax laws, business operations, and the global operating environment continue to evolve rapidly, we need a Manager who is eager to learn, adapt quickly, and expand their impact across the organization, helping Adobe navigate complex tax matters effectively.
If you thrive on operationalizing complex tax positions, love building systems and automating processes (including AI), and want to make a tangible impact at a global tech leader, this is your opportunity.
What you'll do:
Own U.S. Withholding Tax (1042) End-to-End
  • Own the entire workflow for U.S. tax withholding on outbound vendor payments. This includes technical determinations, W-8/W-9 documentation, deposits, reconciliations, and Form 1042/1042-S reporting and filings. You will also handle IRS audit defense.
  • Manage and maintain Adobe's Qualified Intermediary (QI) framework and its ongoing compliance, including leading the periodic QI assessment and validation and directing external advisors through the process.
  • Manage the back-office platforms related to Adobe’s withholding tax processes and their day-to-day operations, directing operational support for the workflow.
  • Lead the tax technical analysis of novel and complex payment streams (for example, AI dataset and training-related payments), engage and align external advisors on the position taken, and translate conclusions into scalable, defensible system logic.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert on withholding tax matters for Adobe throughout the business.
Build and Scale Tax Systems, Automation, and Operations
  • Partner with IT, Procurement, Supplier Onboarding, and business optimization teams to compose, build, and maintain withholding tax and associated tax systems.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and automation to scale workflows, improve accuracy, and reduce manual effort.
Manage U.S. Transfer Pricing Charge-Outs and Cross Charges
  • Manage the U.S. headquarter services charge-out, including cost pool and markup calculations, coordination with functional controllers, and preparation of the supporting transfer pricing report and documentation as well as managing the associated SOX controls.
  • Support other intercompany transfer pricing cross charges and their operational implementation.
Manage Pillar Two Compliance and Support Provision
  • Manage the end-to-end Pillar Two (GloBE) compliance process using the Orbitax platform, including data collection, calculations, and required filings.
  • Support the Pillar Two provision workstream, including the ASC 740 impacts of top-up tax and related disclosures, in partnership with the tax provision team.
  • Serve as system and platform owner for Orbitax, including data uploads, maintenance, and keeping the tool and process current.
Support compliance efforts related to U.S. international taxation, Provision, and Audits
  • Prepare calculations related to U.S. cross-border taxation, including Subpart F, GILTI, FDII, and FTC, in support of the U.S. global tax reporting and provision process.
  • Assist in streamlining and automating parts of the end-to-end compliance and provision life cycle through improved data workflows and technology.
  • Assist with U.S. international components of tax audits and controversy (IDR responses and analysis).
Support M&A Integration and Cross-Functional Initiatives
  • Assist with post-acquisition tax integration, including onboarding acquired entities into withholding tax, transfer pricing, and regulatory adherence and provision processes and systems.
  • Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Legal, and business teams on other strategic and cross-functional projects.
What you need to succeed:
Required
  • CPA, MST, JD/LL.M. in Taxation, or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of international tax experience (Big 4 and/or large multinational)
  • Working knowledge of withholding requirements under U.S. tax law for outbound payments (Chapter 3, Sections 1441 and 1442, W-8 documentation, and Form 1042/1042-S reporting), including treaty analysis
  • Knowledge of key U.S. international tax regimes (GILTI, Subpart F, FDII, BEAT, FTC) and broader U.S. corporate tax principles
  • Experience with, or strong ability to develop, tax technology and systems, including partnering with IT and Procurement to build and improve tax workflows and drive automation
  • Familiarity with transfer pricing concepts, including intercompany services charge-outs; exposure to the Section 482 services regulations a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (for example, SAP), OneSource, and/or tax compliance platforms
Preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Pillar Two (GloBE) compliance and/or provision, ideally using Orbitax or a comparable platform
  • Hands-on experience managing a Qualified Intermediary (QI) structure, including the periodic review and certification process
  • Exposure to M&A and post-acquisition integration matters
  • Passion for using technology (AI, automation) to transform tax processes
If you're looking for a role where you take ownership of Adobe's U.S. withholding tax operations, you will build scalable systems. You will also play a role in an outstanding tax function that supports Adobe's creative innovation. We'd love to hear from you!
