Quick Summary
We’re hiring a Senior Geophysicist to lead seismic exploration and interpretation for Ad Terra’s regional office in Kuala Lumpur — from data collection and processing through to the geophysical interpretations that shape drilling and development decisions across the portfolio. We’re looking for deep command of the seismic toolkit and the judgment that comes from years of hands-on interpretation, paired with real versatility: someone who tracks new methods and technologies as closely as they apply proven ones, and who’s ready to help build the AI-assisted seismic workflows that will define how the discipline works next.
What You'll Do
Data acquisition:
• Design data acquisition plans
• Define suitable seismic measurements methods
• Adapt data collection methods
Data processing:
• Process seismic data
• Define suitable seismic measurements and data-processing methods
• Load, gather, transfer, and organize seismic data
• Conduct quality control of data
Data interpretation:
• Conduct geophysical interpretations
• Build and test 3D models
• Map 3D seismic data models
• Make structural interpretation and mapping
• Run forecasts
• Resolve interpretation issues
AI & Digital Tools:
• Apply and help develop AI/ML-assisted seismic interpretation workflows, including automated fault and horizon picking, denoising, and facies classification
• Evaluate and pilot emerging AI tools to improve seismic processing and interpretation efficiency
• Contribute geophysical domain expertise to Ad Terra's digital subsurface intelligence initiatives
Projects:
• Complete tasks in areas of expertise
• Document progress, setbacks, and new processes
• Establish clear and relevant timesheets
Reporting:
• Generate and write reports, create maps, tables, figures, and summaries
• Review documents, studies, models, and reports prepared by peers
• Report results to managers, clients, partners, etc.
What You'll Bring
• University degree (MSc or PhD) in Geology, Geophysics, or a related field
• Experience as a Geoscientist (8-12 years)
• Minimum 8–12 years of hands-on Oil & Gas industry experience (exploration, development, or production) — mandatory
• Insight into rock physics, AVO, Inversion process
• Intermediate knowledge of Matlab or Python coding and Bash / shell scripting
• Comfortable working with and developing AI/ML tools (e.g., automated picking, ML-assisted denoising or interpretation) to improve processing and interpretation efficiency
• Knowledge of seismic processing software such as Seismic Unix / Madagascar / Promax / SeisSpace / Omega / OpendTect / RadExPro / Reveal / Petrel
• Experience in 2D/3D seismic interpretation
• Experience with Velocity Modelling
• Good understanding of the oil and gas industry
• Familiarity with PETRONAS Technical Standards (PTS) and the Malaysian upstream regulatory framework is an advantage; professional body registration a plus
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Strong numerical and literacy skills
• Systematic and methodical approach
• Able to work efficiently under pressure
• Rigor and organization
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Fluent in English (excellent verbal and written proficiency)
