The Director of Finance - Broadband is a key strategic and operational finance leadership role at AFL. This individual serves as the primary finance business partner to the Broadband business unit, with responsibility for the unit's P&L, including revenue, margin, operating expense, operating income, and capital, as well as a leading role in the broader financial planning and analysis agenda. The role connects financial rigor with commercial execution by translating market dynamics, customer demand, and product performance into clear financial insight that supports profitable growth.
The Director partners closely with Broadband commercial, product management, and operations leaders to ensure financial plans reflect market and operational realities and that business decisions are made with clear financial visibility. The position leads a team of finance professionals, reports to the VP of Finance, Product Solutions, and serves as the primary finance partner to the Broadband business unit leadership team.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Serve as the dedicated finance business partner to AFL's Broadband leadership team, providing financial counsel on growth investments, pricing, customer profitability, and go-to-market strategy.
- Own the Broadband business unit P&L and drive accountability for revenue, gross margin, operating expense, and operating income performance.
- Partner with Sales and Product Management on pricing strategy, deal economics, product-line profitability, margin improvement, and cost-to-serve analysis.
- Lead the financial evaluation of major commercial initiatives, including new product introductions, customer programs, channel strategies, and capacity investments.
- Represent the Broadband business unit in AFL's Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process, ensuring that demand and commercial plans are accurately reflected in the financial forecast.
- Lead the annual budget, monthly reforecasts, and long-range financial planning for the Broadband business unit, coordinating inputs from commercial, product, and operations partners.
- Develop rolling financial forecasts that integrate demand-plan volume assumptions with pricing, mix, cost, and operating-expense plans.
- Prepare and present monthly financial performance reviews, including clear variance analysis and forward-looking assessments of risks and opportunities.
- Support strategic planning by modeling the financial implications of growth investments, market expansion, and product portfolio changes.
- Ensure Broadband financial plans roll up accurately into AFL's consolidated Product Solutions and enterprise financial reporting.
- Drive transparency into Broadband revenue, margin, and cost performance in partnership with the Product Costing center of excellence.
- Analyze product, customer, and channel profitability to identify margin-expansion and cost-reduction opportunities.
- Develop KPIs, dashboards, and decision-support analytics that enable management by exception and timely commercial decisions.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of finance professionals supporting the Broadband business unit.
- Establish clear roles, development plans, and performance expectations across the team, building a pipeline of finance talent capable of growing with the business.
- Champion a culture of financial discipline, commercial partnership, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
- Ensure adherence to AFL's internal control framework and accounting policies across Broadband finance activities.
- Partner with Internal Audit and External Audit teams during reviews and year-end close processes.
- Support compliance with applicable tax, statutory, and regulatory reporting requirements across AFL's multi-jurisdictional footprint.
Requirements
~2 min read- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive finance experience, including meaningful experience in finance business partnering, FP&A, or business-unit finance leadership.
- Proven experience owning or supporting a business-unit or product-line P&L, with the ability to translate commercial and operational activity into actionable financial insight.
- Strong FP&A capabilities, including budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, financial modeling, and clear communication of business performance.
- Experience partnering with Sales, Product Management, and commercial teams on pricing, profitability, and growth decisions.
- Experience working within an Integrated Business Planning (IBP) or S&OP process, including an understanding of how the demand plan connects to the financial plan.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop finance professionals, including team members in geographically distributed locations.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems and financial planning tools, with strong Excel and data-modeling skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior finance and operating leaders.
- MBA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent finance certification.
- Experience in a global manufacturing business with operations in multiple countries and exposure to intercompany accounting and transfer pricing.
- Familiarity with AFL's end markets, including telecom/broadband, energy, data center, or industrial infrastructure.
- Experience working within a Japanese-owned parent company structure and reporting to a global parent organization.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing, operational excellence, or continuous improvement frameworks, such as Six Sigma or Kaizen, from a finance perspective.
