Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) Scientist – Gas Deposition Technology
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) Scientist to provide technical leadership across the manufacturing lifecycle of gas deposition technologies. This role is focused on applying scientific and engineering principles to optimize manufacturing processes, accelerate scale-up, reduce cycle time, improve process capability, and enable the successful introduction of new products and manufacturing technologies.
As a key member of the MSAT organization, you will serve as the technical bridge between Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Engineering, and global operations, using deep process understanding, statistical analysis, and data-driven decision making to solve complex manufacturing challenges.
You will lead initiatives that enhance manufacturing performance, improve product quality and consistency, increase capacity, and support the long-term technology roadmap for gas deposition processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership for gas deposition manufacturing processes, ensuring robust and efficient execution across development, scale-up, and commercial manufacturing.
- Lead scientific investigations into complex production issues impacting quality, throughput, cycle time, yield, equipment performance, or product consistency.
- Apply chemistry, materials science, physics, and engineering principles to understand process mechanisms and establish relationships between critical process parameters and product performance.
- Develop deep process understanding through experimentation, modelling, and data analysis to identify opportunities for process optimization and operational excellence.
- Utilize statistical analysis, process capability metrics, Design of Experiments (DOE), multivariate analysis, and advanced data analytics to drive informed decision making.
- Improve process robustness and reduce variability through identification and implementation of scientifically grounded process improvements.
- Lead process characterization activities and establish operating windows, control strategies, and technical standards that ensure sustainable manufacturing performance.
- Drive cycle time reduction initiatives through process optimization, equipment improvements, automation opportunities, and elimination of non-value-added activities.
- Partner with Manufacturing, QSAT, R&D, Supply Chain, and Product Management to resolve technical challenges and implement lifecycle improvements.
- Lead technology transfer and scale-up activities, ensuring successful transition of new processes and products from development into manufacturing.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify next-generation equipment and manufacturing platforms that improve quality, productivity, automation, capacity, and cost competitiveness.
- Develop technical and business justifications for capital investments supporting future manufacturing capability and growth.
- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, ensuring manufacturing readiness, process robustness, scalability, and successful commercialization.
- Drive value creation initiatives focused on quality, delivery, capacity, cycle time, sustainability, and cost improvement.
- Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and business impacts clearly to both technical and leadership stakeholders.
What Success Looks Like:
- Improved process capability, product consistency, and manufacturing robustness.
- Successful scale-up of new technologies and products with minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.
- Reduced manufacturing cycle times and increased production throughput.
- Faster resolution of complex production and equipment-related issues.
- Enhanced process understanding that enables predictive and proactive process control.
- Successful implementation of next-generation manufacturing technologies and equipment.
- Effective delivery of New Product Introductions from development through commercial manufacturing.
- Measurable improvements in quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance.
- Strong collaboration across manufacturing, quality, engineering, and development organizations.
Our Ideal Candidate
You are a scientifically curious and highly analytical problem solver who enjoys working at the intersection of science, engineering, and manufacturing. You are passionate about understanding the fundamental mechanisms that drive process performance and using that knowledge to improve manufacturing outcomes.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can combine experimentation, statistical analysis, and engineering judgment to solve complex challenges. You are equally comfortable leading technical investigations, driving strategic technology initiatives, evaluating future equipment platforms, and enabling successful product commercialization.
This role offers the opportunity to directly influence manufacturing capability, operational efficiency, technology strategy, and business growth through the advancement of Agilent's gas deposition manufacturing technologies.
