Microbiology Technician I - Flavors

As Microbiology Technician I, you’ll be responsible for conducting microbiology testing and maintaining documentation of processes according to ISO 17025 requirements. This covers all aspects of testing from media and sample preparation through sample analysis and cleanup.  You’ll maintain a focus on continuous improvement within the laboratory, and as needed participate in research projects.

• →Perform routine and non-routine microbiology procedures, including media and sample preparation, sample receiving, sample plating, polymerase chain reaction testing, confirmation assays, and plate reading for a variety of microorganisms.
• →Conduct microbiology testing accurately and efficiently while maintaining a high level of quality and following established laboratory procedures and International Organization for Standardization requirements.
• →Maintain laboratory operations through inventory management, supply tracking and ordering, log sheet completion, equipment calibration and verification, proficiency testing, and corrective action activities.
• →Prepare media and broth for qualitative and quantitative testing, sterilize materials needed for analysis, and assist with laboratory waste disposal and cleanup.
• →Maintain required laboratory information management system knowledge and complete necessary documentation and data entry.
• →Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in research projects as assigned by laboratory and quality leadership.
• →Perform other related laboratory tasks as needed.

• A bachelor’s degree in physical science, microbiology, biology, chemistry, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of education and substantial microbiological laboratory experience.
• Previous laboratory experience with a strong conceptual foundation in microbiology is preferred.
• Knowledge of microbiology and the ability to accurately and consistently follow standard operating procedures and strong analytical skills to perform qualitative and quantitative testing and determine microorganism concentrations.
• Physical dexterity for measuring, pipetting, and transferring samples into plates and tubes.
• General computer knowledge and familiarity with laboratory information management systems for data entry.
• Planning and organizational skills to maintain supplies and ensure testing is completed on time.
• Basic knowledge of good laboratory practices and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
• Ability to differentiate colors, work various shifts, and contribute effectively as a team member.

Sensient Agricultural Ingredients is one of the largest producers and distributors in the world of dehydrated onion and garlic products as well as chili powder, paprika, chili pepper and dehydrated vegetables such as parsley, celery, and spinach. These ingredients are used in many of today's popular convenience foods. The Agricultural Ingredients unit is located in Turlock, California.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $55,000 – 72,000 USD. Pay within the range is based on several factors, which may include, but are not limited to, education, work experience, specialized training, and labor market conditions.  In addition to salary, Sensient is proud to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits program to support the holistic well-being of our employees and their families.
