The primary function of this position is to market and underwrite a specialized and sophisticated product to a unique market.  Specifically, the functions are:


Market marine insurance through a focused distribution system of select producers.  This includes producer training as well as motivation and guidance.  It involves repeated sales efforts and personal relationships built up over time. This position includes various marketing functions such as: Initiating and managing campaigns to AIG’s defined target market including the monitoring and follow-up of responses. Assisting producers to develop a target market prospect list. Accountable for production growth and profitability of the Malaysia marine portfolio Achieving the set individual budget and helping team achieve the team budget.


Servicing bound business is a key function with the specific objective to:

Develop long-term relationships with the Insured. Strengthening personal relationships with the Insured. Provide quick turnaround on any of the Insured’s policy / quotation requirements. Ensure the smooth renewal of existing policies.


The position requires the candidate to be a team player and meet with insureds and buyers and take the opportunity to review their operations and evaluate risk factors.  A close relationship with underwriting colleagues, PCM, APAC Regional Underwriter, other Commercial Lines team members, insureds and producers is necessary. The candidate will help underwrite marine cargo and marine liability insureds.  The candidate must assess whether each Insured’s underwriting and risks profile is in line with Company’s underwriting guidelines. Other responsibilities include;

  • understanding the approved policy forms, terms and conditions;
  • preparing an underwriting worksheet to structure a quotation for approval within own authority or authority of PCM in Malaysia or APAC Regional Underwriter.
  • Negotiating with prospect’s senior management to bind the program
  • Ensure all the administrative functions are effectively performed to issue the policy.
  • Assist in preparing production and budget reports.
  • Ad hoc assignment / project assigned.


  • University Degree majoring in Management (or equivalent)
  • 3 – 5 years marine underwriting experience is preferred
  • Good speaking and writing skills (in Bahasa Melayu and English)
