AGent is building the leading software platform to optimize distributed generation resources — turning energy liabilities into reliable, monetizable assets. We bring AI to the aggregation, orchestration, and monetization of distributed generation in wholesale and retail power markets, delivering meaningful reliability, economic, and sustainability benefits to commercial, institutional, and industrial energy users, utilities, and grid operators. We move fast, think big, and operate with a lean, high-trust team. Every hire matters here.

About the Role

~1 min read

We are looking for a VP of Product & Engineering to take full ownership of both functions. This is a builder's role, not a purely technical one. You will spend as much time talking to customers, shaping the roadmap, and driving execution as you will leading the engineers who bring it to life.

The role leans 50–60% product and 40–50% engineering. If you have spent your career purely in one lane, this probably is not the right fit. If you have lived at the intersection of both — and loved it — read on.

Four things matter most in this seat.

  • A product-first mindset: you talk to customers, translate what you hear into prioritized features, and build the right thing in the right order.
  • An engineering leader's instincts: you architect for scale, hold teams to timelines, and make sharp build-vs-buy-vs-partner calls.
  • An operator's discipline: you run tight processes and create the accountability a fast-moving team needs.
  • An innovator's vision: you see where the energy market is heading before others do, challenge conventional thinking, and turn that foresight into a platform that stands apart.
  • The roadmap end-to-end: customer discovery through prioritization, specification, and delivery
  • Regular customer interviews, working with Sales and Energy Markets to identify what drives the most value
  • A structured, transparent roadmap that aligns leadership on what is being built, why, and when
  • Demos to prospects and customers alongside Sales — you are a credible, compelling voice for what we have built
  • Crisp prioritization decisions: you know how to say no, and how to explain why
  • Leading and growing a team of engineers and product managers — people who have worked with you before would follow you anywhere
  • The engineering cadence: sprint planning, standups, retros, on-time delivery, accountability
  • The technology architecture: scalable, secure, and capable of 24/7 mission-critical operation
  • Build-vs-buy-vs-partner decisions, and the outsourcing relationships that supplement our internal capabilities
  • Unit economics for the platform, including hardware BOM and cloud infrastructure cost
  • Tight delivery timelines, and the discipline to hold the team to them
  • Early identification of blockers and risks — the CEO hears about problems before they become problems
  • Regular reporting to the board and leadership on roadmap, milestones, and team performance

Requirements

~1 min read
  • 5+ years as VP of Product, VP of Engineering, CTO, or in senior technology leadership at a high-growth company
  • A real product management background: you have owned roadmaps, run customer discovery, and made prioritization calls under pressure
  • A track record of shipping on time and creating operational structure in fast-moving environments
  • Strong system architecture instincts — you know how to build platforms that scale
  • Confidence presenting and demoing externally: you translate technical capability into business value in the room
  • Exceptional communication — you can present to a board, interview a customer, and give a junior engineer clear feedback in the same day
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, remote, early-stage environment where self-initiative is essential, and a deep passion for technology and energy

Nice to Have

~1 min read
  • You use AI tooling in your own daily work. Not as something your team does, and not only as a feature you have shipped — you personally build with it, you have opinions about where it fails, and you have raised an engineering organization's leverage with it.
  • Experience in distributed energy, electricity markets, grid operations, or adjacent industries
  • Familiarity with distributed generation assets, backup power systems, or DER platforms
  • Experience with hardware/software co-development and the associated unit economics
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field
