Context

Additive Manufacturing (AM) has transitioned from a specialized prototyping tool to a core component of "Digital Manufacturing" for repair, spare parts on-demand manufacturing to serial production. The pulling industry segments are by order of current intensity: Defense, Medical, Aerospace, Maritime & Shipbuilding, Oil & Gas and Energy, and Automotive. The whole Metal AM industry is creating new Argon Volume in the Advanced Manufacturing marketplace at a rate of 15% CAGR; this rate is forecast to be sustained through the next 10 years of Industry 4.0 transformation.
While metal powders remain the dominant feedstock for precision parts and tooling (L-PBF process and Binder Jet process), the industry is increasingly adopting Wire-fed AM for larger structural components due to its superior deposition rates and material efficiency.
