Responsibilities

  • Champions and promotes a strong safety culture implementing strategic programs to ensure associate HSEQ, Risks Management and company regulatory compliance.

  • Directs the Division HSEQ team in accordance with company policies by hiring, training, mentoring, planning and directing company strategy, managing performance and resolving associate issues so that assigned performance targets are met or exceeded.

  • Represents Airgas and the Division on regional regulatory issues and audits/inspections by government entities. Actively assists legal counsel with technical aspects of litigation involving compressed gases, cylinders & bulk storage vessels, associated filling and transfer equipment, and trucking operations. 

  • Liaison with Regions’ Management and HSE Leaders to develop the execution plans of the HSEQ strategy and initiatives.

  • Knowledge in Quality and ISO audits to ensure both internal and external compliance and requirements are met.

  • Supporting Validators Databases (ISN, ComplyWork…) and ensures contractors evaluation comply with Airgas requirements, to mitigate company risks as both a contractor and a supplier.

  • Provides senior leadership and guidance on Airgas’s Incident Review Committee. Participates in a leadership capacity on the AERO (the Airgas Emergency Response Operations) Team ensuring adequate Aero capabilities within all regions of the division.

  • Support Safecor and Group (SIS) in the elaboration and the deployment of Safety initiatives and Campaigns regarding HSEQ and Road Safety. Lead Division’s roll outs and participation

  • Actively promote programs such as: 12 Life Saving Rules, Stop Work Authority, Our 24 Safety Risks, Just Culture, Job Hazard Analysis….

  • Provides executive analysis of significant risk data by evaluating the effectiveness of initiatives through safety assessments and compiling and interpreting data to identify gaps. Develops and implements action plans as necessary to mitigate risks.

  • Deploy training to develop innovative, impactful and meaningful safety training programs such as Safety Leadership for Supervisors. Designs, directs, and conducts training and audits on established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) including the HSEQ procedures, Transportation Operations Manual (TOM), compliance to Food Gas,  Pharmaceutical  procedures, Technical Reference Manual, Crisis Management Manual, and other Airgas Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as they are disseminated.

  • Establishes regional safety goals and implements a safety performance process. Oversees investigations are performed for all Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE), Process Safety, and Transports Canada (TC) related incidents. Partners with insurance carriers to manage accident claims.

  • Promotes events reporting using our Intelex platform and ensures action plans, tasks, Management of Changes are duly and timely reported and documented.

  • Partners with Senior Management on all potential acquisitions from the perspective of HSEQ, Risks Management and Compliance issues prior to the acquisition, all the way through integration.

  • Works in partnership with divisional leadership team members on all HSE and Risk Management issues.

  • Works in partnership with the SAFECOR team sharing responsibility for developing and implementing the Company's safety, compliance, environmental, and risk management practices further ensuring consistent application of safety regulations and guidelines throughout the field operations. Participates and is a key member & decision-maker of the Airgas Safety Council sharing responsibility for developing and implementing the Company's safety, compliance, environmental, and risk management practices.

  • Initiates activities designed to empower location managers and associates to lead safety efforts within the organization.

  • Ensures Canadian regulations and requirements are integrated into Airgas/Safecor requirements.

  • Promoting Compressed Gas Association (CGA) representation and developing active members to grow the gas industry knowledge base.

  • Special projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written 

  • Bilingualism in French and English is mandatory in order to support all the teams throughout Canada

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or a related degree field required. In lieu of degree, consideration for up to 5 years of additional related experience may be considered

  •  A minimum of 10 years of safety & compliance experience demonstrating increasing leadership responsibility in positions within a production and/or distribution environment.

  • Prior demonstrated experience in building, implementing, maintaining and tracking safety and compliance initiatives in a safety or operations role required. 

  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) certification preferred.
