Air Products is seeking an expert Operations Technician to support our facilities in Texas City, TX.

This production facility is jointly owned by Air Products and Gulf Coast Ammonia, with Air Products serving as the site operator. The facility includes a Steam Methane Reformer, Air Separation Unit, Ammonia Plant, and supporting utility systems. The site operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and requires continuous operational support.

The Operations Technician will be responsible for supervising and controlling the processes that produce hydrogen, nitrogen, and ammonia, including utility systems, compressors, rotating equipment, and Distributed Control System (DCS) operations. This role also requires maintaining water chemistry, performing daily operational duties, and completing preventive maintenance activities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the SMR, ASU, and NH3 operations site supervisors, Shift Team Lead, Pipeline Department, and Customer Service Center (CSC) to monitor facility operations and site utilities.
  • Adhere to operating, communication, and decision-making protocols to address real-time supply and demand balance changes.
  • Support daily operational priorities for the ASU, SMR, and NH3 plants based on overall system status, customer demand, maintenance activities, and other operational factors.
  • Escalate process, safety, environmental, or operational issues to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedures.
  • Follow the Operator Progression Guide and maintain required training, including worker safety policies, facility processes, operating procedures, troubleshooting, and operational discipline.
  • Understand, support, and implement the Emergency Response Plan for the site and areas served by Air Products-operated pipelines.
  • Participate in emergency response drills to maintain readiness and reinforce knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Assist in investigations related to injuries, environmental incidents, non-conformance events, and near-miss occurrences.
  • Promote, follow, and implement safe work practices and consistent procedures for both employees and contractors.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of facility environmental permits and promptly escalate environmental incidents as required.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A degree or certificate in Process Technology or a maintenance-related field is preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, processing, chemical, or petrochemical environment is required.
  • Previous pipeline controller experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must be flexible to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be willing to work overtime as needed.

  • Strong operational competence is desired.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Must be a self-starter with a positive demeanor and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficient digital literacy, including experience with SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Shown dedication to safety, safety compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.

  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Elevated work required and ability to enter confined spaces.
  • Must be able to wear self-contained and air purifying respiratory protection.
  • Must be clean shaven.
  • Willing to work at a tobacco-free facility.
  • Ability to pass an OSHA approved ERT Physical.
