The Floor Side Quality Team Member supports manufacturing quality by performing in-process quality verification activities within active production areas. This position conducts scheduled dimensional and visual inspections, process verification checks, and random sampling activities to ensure production output remains within established specifications throughout manufacturing operations.

As a floor-side function within the Calibration Team, this position supports production quality, process stability, containment activities, and rapid response to manufacturing abnormalities. The Floor Side Quality Team Member utilizes calibrated measurement equipment and applies basic metrology principles to verify product conformity with engineering drawings, specifications, control plans, and standardized work instructions.

During production emergencies, line-down situations, or other operational needs, this position may also assist with additional calibration-related activities to support the timely restoration of manufacturing operations.

 

Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:

  • →Perform scheduled dimensional and visual inspections within active production areas at defined intervals.
  • →Conduct random sampling inspections to verify ongoing product and process conformity.
  • →Perform process verification checks in accordance with established Quality Control requirements.
  • →Use calibrated measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, plug gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • →Verify production parts conform to applicable engineering drawings, specifications, control plans, and standardized work instructions.
  • →Accurately record and document inspection results in accordance with established Quality Control and Calibration procedures.
  • →Identify, communicate, and escalate out-of-specification conditions, product concerns, or process abnormalities to appropriate Quality and Manufacturing personnel.
  • →Support immediate containment activities involving suspected or confirmed nonconforming material.
  • →Verify inspection and measurement equipment is within current calibration status prior to use.
  • →Properly handle, use, and maintain measurement equipment to prevent damage, deterioration, or loss of measurement accuracy.
  • →Identify and communicate suspected gauge, measurement equipment, or calibration concerns to Calibration or Quality leadership.
  • →Work closely with Manufacturing and Quality personnel to respond to floor-side inspection and measurement concerns.
  • →Support Calibration operations during production emergencies, line-down situations, or other operational needs.
  • →Maintain required inspection records and documentation in accordance with established procedures.
  • →Follow applicable Quality Control procedures, Calibration requirements, control plans, and standardized work instructions.
  • →Perform other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by management.

 

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Basic understanding of dimensional measurement techniques and metrology principles.
  • Familiarity with dimensional measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Ability to perform dimensional and visual inspections accurately and consistently.
  • Ability to follow engineering specifications, inspection procedures, control plans, standardized work instructions, and other Quality Control documentation.
  • Ability to document inspection results and maintain required records with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to identify and appropriately communicate product, measurement, or process abnormalities.
  • Ability to properly use and handle precision measurement equipment.
  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Calibration, Quality Control, Manufacturing, and other departments.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple inspection activities and changing production priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

 

Requirements

  • Previous experience in quality inspection, dimensional inspection, calibration, or a related quality function preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous experience working in an automotive manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience using calibrated measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and plug gauges preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and dimensional specifications preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting floor-side quality or production inspection activities preferred.
