  Are you a skilled trades professional with a passion for developing future talent, leading training initiatives, and supporting operational excellence?   The Technical Trades Supervisor oversees, coordinates, and directs the development of Trades Apprentices within apprenticeship programs across Lines, Metering, Substations, and System Control. This role partners closely with functional teams, Health & Safety, and Human Resources to ensure apprentices are equipped with the training, experience, and knowledge required to become competent and experienced Journeypersons. The position also supports the development and delivery of programs and workshops that prepare Journeypersons and Lead Hands for successful transitions into higher levels of responsibility, while ensuring participation in and adherence to compliance training requirements.   What you’ll do   Training Program Management In this role, you will: Conduct training needs analyses and establish short- and long-term training objectives for apprentices and Powerline Technicians (PLTs) Coordinate training plans with internal and external resources to ensure timely and appropriate delivery Identify and evaluate new training tools and methods for organizational suitability and effectiveness Develop and maintain the Apprentice Program Guide Develop and schedule Skills Boot Camps for apprentices prior to each level of schooling Training Delivery & Apprentice Development You will support apprentice growth and development by: Delivering orientations for co-op students, new apprentices, and PLT hires Observing apprentices in classroom and field settings to ensure they receive the learning and support required for success Ensuring apprentices are instructed and evaluated to provincial standards Conducting regular visits with apprentices and mentors to identify learning opportunities Serving as the primary point of contact for apprenticeship program questions and concerns Assessing performance and analyzing feedback to determine actions that support apprentice success Conducting periodic performance reviews with apprentices Partnering with management teams to ensure apprentices receive interdepartmental task exposure Providing coaching and feedback to internal coaches and mentors Compliance, Coordination & Program Administration You will help ensure effective program coordination and regulatory compliance by: Ensuring consistent application of the Apprentice Program and alignment with industry guidelines and standards Partnering with functional areas, Health & Safety, and Human Resources to address issues, concerns, and gaps in program application Coordinating compliance training schedules with Health & Safety teams and third-party vendors Organizing and overseeing the annual Rescue Practice Day and ensuring team participation Working with Skilled Trades Ontario to initiate apprentice training agreements Registering apprentices in school Ensuring apprentice logs are maintained and Journeyperson documentation is obtained upon apprenticeship completion Providing progress reports on apprentice training and development, as required by functional areas Coordinating meetings, schedules, and supporting documentation Ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Alectra policies, procedures, and standards Recruitment & External Engagement You will contribute to workforce development and talent attraction by: Planning, organizing, and overseeing the recruitment of new Powerline Technicians, apprentices, and co-op students Playing a key role in recruitment, selection, and onboarding, including participating in on-site meetings with functional managers, providing feedback to trade schools, and observing potential new hires Travelling, as required, to support recruitment activities at colleges and other institutions Participating in college Program Advisory Committees Continuous Improvement & Operational Support You will support ongoing program excellence by: Working closely with Technical Trades Supervisors across Alectra regions to ensure consistency in program content, objectives, and delivery Organizing and chairing Apprentice meetings Assessing and recommending upgrades to departmental training facilities Identifying opportunities to streamline or automate processes to improve service delivery Identifying opportunities for apprentices to participate in external skills competitions and coordinating involvement Corporate Values and Conduct: Demonstrate professional conduct and align with Alectra’s core values of safety, teamwork, and customer focus. Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned to support operational objectives   Who you are   Education & Technical Knowledge Post-secondary education in a related field Holds a recognized trade or equivalent (434A PLT considered an asset) Train-the-Trainer certification considered an asset Must hold and maintain a valid Class G driver’s licence Extensive knowledge of OHSA, EUSR, and health & safety regulations In-depth knowledge of Alectra policies, procedures, and standards Proficiency with computing tools, including Microsoft Office applications and GIS Experience Minimum 5 years of previous training experience within a trades environment Experience applying adult learning techniques when designing and delivering training and support materials considered an asset Experience in a unionized utility environment considered an asset Skills, Abilities & Competencies Strong conflict resolution skills with the ability to navigate difficult situations Willingness to participate in on-call and/or emergency work duties Ability to lead change while engaging, developing, and motivating teams Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions Strong written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines Strong collaboration skills with the ability to reprioritize work based on emerging customer or departmental needs Self-motivated with the ability to work independently Compensation Participation in a rotating on-call schedule will receive on-call pay as applicable At Alectra, Compensation for non-union positions is determined within a defined salary range for each role. Placement within the salary range depends on several factors, including qualifications, relevant experience, and alignment with the role’s requirements. We consider internal equity and market competitiveness to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization. This position is eligible to receive an annual incentive payment based on a combination of individual and Company performance.   Where you will work   The role is performed primarily in an office environment, with occasional time spent in the field. Work may involve minor exposure to disagreeable conditions, including inclement weather, while supervising construction sites or maintenance activities. Ability to participate in an on-call rotation with Lines Supervisors out of the Patterson Service Centre in Barrie
