POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operations Manager, Substations, is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, direction, completion, and financial outcome of substation construction projects across the company. The Operations Manager will lead a team of project managers, project coordinators and superintendents to execute the substation scope of the construction projects, within budget and schedule per the contract documents. The Operations Manager will support Business Development in developing and implementing strategies to drive business growth while building and sustaining long-term client relationships.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and implement strategies to grow and enhance Barton Malow Canada’s substation capabilities.

• Direct and control the delivery of all substation projects across the organization to ensure their completion according to plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, and contractual agreements.

• Set appropriate milestones and assign staff qualified to handle the scope and complexity of each project.

• Actively recruit, supervise and manage team members in a manner that supports a healthy work environment with a focus on leadership, development and team member retention

• Support strategic business development activities, formulate solutions to address client challenges while also pursuing new projects and opportunities with new and existing clients.

• Responsible for project financials, including forecasting, productivity, progress tracking, change management and other commercial issues.

• Monitor weekly reports for compliance with Company standards and objectives.

• Responsible for the overall leadership of substations projects to ensure operations are executed in a safe, high quality and timely and cost-effective manner.

• Accountable for supporting and executing of the annual business plan for Barton Malow Canada

• Facilitate and/or support the development of business teaming/partnership agreements (if applicable), client contract negotiation process, and preconstruction effort for substation projects.

• This role requires strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills to successfully lead a team.

• Responsible for the entire lifecycle of a project including, supporting preconstruction, client negotiations, vendor and subcontractor selection, execution and closeout.

• Ensure that work is completed safely, to high-quality standards, on schedule, on budget, and in alignment with contract requirement.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 15 years of electrical construction experience with 10 years of high-voltage and substation experience.

• 5+ years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role.

• Experience in energy, renewables, industrial, or utility electrical construction.

• Strong understanding of electrical codes, drawings, standards, and installation practices.

• Previous EPC project experience is an asset.

• Proven experience with substation or transmission line installation and commissioning is an required.

• Willing and able to work on remote project sites for the duration of construction.

• Demonstrated ability to lead crews and subcontractors effectively.

• Strong commitment to safe work practices and safety leadership.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office and digital field tools.

• Must be able to work on project site, and open to relocation for future projects.

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION:

• Base salary range is $145,000 - $175,000, dependent on candidate job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
