Barton Malow Canada is an Industrial Contractor with clients across Canada and is part of the Barton Malow family of companies. Our services include Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) Construction, Design-Build, Integrated Project Delivery, General Contracting, and Specialty Contracting. Our primary markets are Energy, with a focus on renewables, and Automotive, with a focus on electric vehicle technology. We self-perform several trades with an emphasis on electrical construction, including medium and high voltage systems. We build it safe, no exceptions. The Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for conducting quality audits on designated Barton Malow Canada projects and ensuring the Quality Management System (QMS) is developed, implemented, and maintained in accordance with established standards. This role provides direct oversight of project documentation and on‑site physical inspections throughout the workflow process. The Quality Assurance Coordinator collaborates with internal Quality Control personnel and external stakeholders to review, document, and verify all quality‑related aspects of the project. The individual will also proactively identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes as required to support continuous quality improvement.

  • Foster and sustain a culture of quality by coaching and mentoring employees at every level.
  • Manage and distribute the company’s quality documentation efficiently.
  • Collaborate with site staff to monitor all quality-related activities across projects.
  • Conduct internal and external audits as required.
  • Ensure contractor quality requirements are communicated to vendors and review contractor documentation submittals.
  • Coordinate quality audits involving all site subcontractors and vendors.
  • Oversee inspection test plans (ITPs).
  • Participate in client quality management meetings when necessary.
  • Prepare and oversee project quality system documentation prior to project initiation.
  • Review qualifications and training requirements for quality inspection personnel.
  • Monitor and track resolutions for all issues and non-conformance reports.
  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of the project Quality Management System (QMS) onsite and in office; recommend and implement improvements as needed.
  • Manage archival documentation upon project completion.
  • Supervise on-site and off-site third-party inspectors.
  • Collaborate with project staff to resolve any instances of nonconforming products.
  • Assess contractors' QA/QC systems to ensure compliance with contractual requirements alongside Project Supervision.
  • Facilitate contractor quality approvals with Project Supervision when necessary.
  • Verify that documentation and certificates for materials purchased from vendors are accurate.
  • Liaise with management regarding quality improvements.
  • Coordinate receipt inspections.
  • Distribute pertinent QA/QC documentation to site contractors.
  • Verify all site quality activities comply with applicable codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering (or a related field) is considered an asset.
  • Electrical experience is required.
  • Quality Management Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution or an equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a quality management or QA/QC role within the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality Management Standards and their practical implementation.
  • Working knowledge of CWB W47.1, W59, including welding procedures and weld testing requirements.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop alternative solutions and exercise sound, independent judgment.
  • Excellent time management, coordination, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures consistently.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and interpersonal skill, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, etc.).
