POSITION SUMMARY:
The Manager, Advocacy Engagement and Mobilization, plays a critical role in advancing The ALS Association’s mission through direct advocacy, coalition engagement, and public affairs initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Advocacy Engagement & Mobilization, this position supports day-to-day execution of federal and state advocacy efforts, manages issue campaigns, and helps strengthen relationships with policymakers, advocates, and partner organizations. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, organized project manager, and passionate advocate for people living with ALS.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support the execution of federal and state advocacy strategies and policy campaigns under the direction of the Director of Advocacy Engagement and Mobilization.
  • Draft advocacy materials including action alerts, fact sheets, blog posts, talking points, and social media content to advance the Association’s legislative and regulatory priorities.
  • Coordinate day-to-day advocacy communications, including updating the Advocacy Action Center and monitoring engagement metrics.
  • Drive the creation and execution of compelling public affairs messaging and materials that elevate and reinforce the Association’s government affairs objectives.
  • Assist in managing logistics for advocacy events, including briefings, webinars, and Hill or state-level meetings.
  • Track and analyze policy developments, hearings, and legislation relevant to ALS and related health policy issues.
  • Support grassroots engagement, including recruitment, training, and mobilization of advocates.
  • Assist with the development of advocacy reports, presentations, and dashboards to evaluate campaign effectiveness.
  • Provide administrative and project management support to the Advocacy & Public Policy team.
  • Represent The ALS Association at meetings, coalition convenings, and advocacy events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the team’s mission and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy, political science, communications, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in government relations, public policy, or issue advocacy, preferably in health care or nonprofit sectors.
  • Strong understanding of the federal and state legislative processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to produce compelling advocacy materials.
  • Experience with advocacy tools (e.g., Quorum, Fiscal Note, VoterVoice, or similar platforms) and digital communications.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Collaborative team player who thrives in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The ALS Association's pay range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 annually.

The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties/requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation. Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.

The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance. The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association. Healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with employer match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, well-being benefits, paid time off and several paid holidays are available to Association employees, among other benefits.
