JOB SUMMARY
The Communications Assistant supports the American Rivers communications and marketing team and reports to the National Communications and Media Director.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Writing and Content Production
- Developing content tied to legislative moments, campaigns, reports, events and national awareness opportunities.
- Conducting background research and interviews to support long-form storytelling and issue education.
- Coordinating review and approval workflows with communications staff and program teams.
- Writing content that balances advocacy, storytelling and technical accuracy.
- Partnering with the digital team to identify sharing and elevation opportunities.
Analytics Reporting/ Creative Research
- Research and develop new ways of storytelling and track performance.
- Develop regular performance reports for earned media.
- Translate blog analytics data into actionable recommendations that strengthen messaging, increase reach and improve overall communications outcomes.
Influencer Strategy Development
- Support the development of an influencer strategy, working with the Senior Marketing Director and Senior Digital Director
- Identify and map relevant content creators.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current undergraduate or graduate student studying environmental science or communication.
Candidates who are unsure if they meet all minimum qualifications or who have transferable skills and experience beyond the conservation sector are encouraged to apply.

$20/hour. 520-hour max.
American Rivers offers marketable compensation that reflects the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The hourly rate for this assistant is $20 per hour, 10 hours per week.
