Amgen is seeking a Specialist IS Architect – Data Center Operations Lead to provide long-term operational ownership and technical leadership for the Ireland Data Center environment. As the Amgen Dun Laoghaire site continues to expand through significant infrastructure investments, the deployment of a new Data Center, and the introduction of new technologies and services, this role will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of the site's mission-critical infrastructure.
This position is based at the Amgen Dun Laoghaire site in Ireland and requires a strong on-site presence to support day-to-day data center operations, infrastructure activities, and vendor coordination. A hybrid working arrangement may be considered, subject to operational requirements.
Operating within both the local Ireland site organization and the Global Data Center Operations function, the successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for Data Center Operations at the Amgen Dun Laoghaire site, with ownership of strategic services including Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and Network Time Protocol (NTP). The role combines local site ownership, technical leadership, project delivery, vendor management, and compliance oversight within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
While supporting the deployment and operational readiness of the new Ireland Data Center, the primary focus of the role is the long-term ownership, operation, and continuous improvement of the Ireland Data Center environment and associated services. The position also offers the opportunity to take a leading role within the regional Data Center Operations organization, contributing to standards, strategy, and future infrastructure initiatives across the region.
Requirements
~2 min readThe successful candidate for this role will bring the following education, skills and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, engineering, telecommunications, computer science, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in Data Center Operations, Critical Facilities, Telecommunications, Infrastructure Services, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience managing mission-critical production environments and infrastructure services.
- Experience leading technical projects, operational initiatives, and vendor engagements.
- Strong knowledge of data center design, operations, capacity planning, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of mission-critical power distribution, UPS, PDU, cooling systems, and supporting MEP infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of server, storage, and structured cabling technologies.
- Strong understanding of Networking technologies, such as TCP/IP, DNS, Switching and Routing.
- Experience with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms and asset management tools.
- Experience maintaining as-built documentation, rack elevations, cable records and infrastructure asset inventories.
- Extensive knowledge of IT infrastructure and cabling standards.
- Knowledge of BICSI, ISO, Uptime Institute, and other relevant industry standards.
- Experience supporting DAS environments and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Experience managing enterprise NTP/PTP services in regulated environments.
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, manufacturing, or other GxP-regulated industries.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, vendor management, and leadership skills.
- Ability to influence decisions and lead initiatives in a matrix organization.
- Project Management certification (PMP, Prince2, Agile) preferred.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Occasional travel within EMEA and globally to support Data Center Operations initiatives, project delivery, audits, operational reviews, and site assessments.
