During this program, you will use synthetic organic chemistry and chemical engineering principles to deliver robust processes and technologies for the manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) from early- to late-stage development, and serve our R&D, Clinical and Commercial partners. The Drug Substance Technologies Synthetics organization is principally concerned with translating developmental processes into commercial manufacturing reality through scientific expertise, innovative engineering, and deployment of manufacturing technologies.

The department at our Cambridge, Massachusetts location is looking for an Undergraduate student interested in a 6-month Co-op placement. The Co-op will learn the principles of process scale-up of small-molecule intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients using synthetic organic chemistry and chemical engineering principles. The Co-op will have an opportunity to interact with scientists and engineers implementing advanced manufacturing technologies for multiple product modalities. Relocation in the form of a transportation allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

Program Eligibility Requirements

• →Expected completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the co-op commencing
• →Expected continued enrollment in an accredited college or university following the co-op program
• →Student must be located in the United States for the duration of the co-op program
• →Must be available to work a full-time schedule.

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

• 18 years or older
• Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

• Degree concentration(s) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and/or Data Sciences, with a focus or interest in organic synthesis and chemical engineering.
• Strong interpersonal, project management, analytical and quantitative skills
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, project management, problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills
• Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, flexibility, adaptability, and resourcefulness.
• Having experience in one of the listing areas below will be a plus: hands-on experience in the laboratory, flow chemistry, biocatalysis, lab automation, data analysis using Python.

The base pay range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $28.87 per hour.
