Amherst College invites applications for the Interim Head Men's and Women's Squash Coach position. The Interim Head Men's and Women's Squash Coach is a full-time, fixed-term position. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $82,000 to $92,000 per year.

The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. The interim head coach is a one-season position that is responsible for the management, daily operation, and short-term administrative oversight of a successful squash program. The interim head coach will maintain program continuity, ensure positive team dynamics, foster student-athlete academic and athletic development, and manage day-to-day competition. The position requires a strong understanding of intercollegiate athletics in a highly competitive academic environment. The interim head coach takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Coaching & Team Management

• Teach, analyze performance, and coach match techniques, court positioning, and physical strategy of squash during practices and intercollegiate competition.

• Maintain program stability and team morale during the leadership transition.

• Monitor the academic progress of squash student-athletes, liaising with faculty and providing guidance when necessary.

• Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions and maintain team records and evaluation metrics.

• Ensure full compliance with all NESCAC, CSA (College Squash Association), NCAA, and institutional regulations.
  

Department & Operational Responsibilities

• Manage match logistics, travel schedules, equipment inventory, and daily operating budgets in coordination with administration.
• Maintain open lines of communication with alumni and department leadership during the transition period.
• Attend departmental meetings and perform other administrative duties as requested by the Director of Athletics.

Recruiting

• Work with the Assistant Squash Coach to maintain the existing recruiting pipelines and co-communicate with ongoing prospective student-athletes to preserve recruitment stability.
• Working with the Assistant Squash Coach, host on-campus visits and co-represent the college to prospective recruits from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Experience playing or coaching squash at the college level.

• Strong recruiting skills.

• Outstanding organizational, communication, writing, interpersonal, and analytical skills, and the capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to work independently and to exercise sound judgment and discretion.

• Demonstrated commitment to supporting the development of student-athletes from varied backgrounds.

• Ability to work intentionally with a diverse team to establish and maintain an inclusive, supportive, cohesive team atmosphere.

• Ability to work nights, weekends, and other non-traditional schedules

• Ability to travel (by car, air, train, bus) domestically as needed for competition.
• Successful completion of required reference and background checks.
• An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of Five College Risk Management driver credentialing program.
