Amherst College invites applications for the Maintainer position (multiple openings). The Maintainer is a full-time, year-round position. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $19.98 to $20.25 per hour.

The Dining Services Maintainer supports Amherst College Dining Services by maintaining safe, clean, orderly, and sanitary conditions across dining facilities, including common areas, restrooms, and dining-specific spaces. This role is essential to ensuring a welcoming and functional environment that supports the daily dining experience of a diverse campus community.

Working both independently and collaboratively, the Dining Services Maintainer performs routine and detailed cleaning tasks, monitors facility conditions, and responds to operational needs during and after service. This position serves as a steward of Dining Services spaces by maintaining cleanliness standards, identifying and communicating maintenance or safety concerns, and supporting the overall functionality of dining operations.

All Dining Services employees are responsible for understanding and implementing established food safety procedures and allergen prevention protocols. Team members must actively support and respond appropriately to individuals with food allergies to ensure a safe dining experience for all community members. 

Employees are expected to apply the knowledge and procedures covered in mandatory training sessions in the course of their daily duties. Maintaining these safety standards is essential to protect the health and well-being of our students, guests, and colleagues.

Required

-High School Diploma or equivalent.

-1 to 3 years of related experience.

-Equivalent work experience in lieu of minimum education and related experience; 1 to 3 years of food service experience.

-Ability to work efficiently in a high-traffic, fast-paced environment.
-Basic knowledge of custodial or cleaning practices, or willingness to learn.
-Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and safety procedures.
-Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining sanitation standards.
-Effective communication, organizational, and time management skills.
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
-Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community.
-Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals and equipment.
-Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.

-Successful completion of required reference and background checks.

-An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.

-Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test.

Preferred

-Previous custodial or cleaning experience, preferably in a high-volume or institutional setting.
-Familiarity with cleaning equipment, sanitation standards, and environmental health and safety practices.
-Experience supporting events or working in multi-use facilities.
-Experience working in a team-oriented and diverse environment.
