About the position:
An Advocate is the direct provider of casework services to the participants, including intake, needs assessment, the development of case management plans, and treatment progress monitoring.
- Provide interactive services to the STOP participants.
- Develop Case Management Plans (CMP) for participants.
- Develop and monitor the participant’s progress relative to their CMP through all phases of the program.
- Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies as necessary.
- Maintain progress notes in participant files.
- Keep the AOR apprised of participant’s progress. Develop discharge and aftercare plans.
- Maintain collaborative relationships evidenced by effective communication with STOP Program Director, CDCR liaisons, subcontracted CBP programs, and STOP participants.
- Maintain comprehensive case records and accurate statistical information for STOP participants and services, including all of the required elements of the Case Management Plan.
- Development of CMP within forty-five (45) calendar days of placement, ensuring goals, objectives, and target needs are based on assessment(s) results.
- Provide a minimum of two (2) face-to-face case management sessions per month with each participant and document in file and in ARMS.
- Ensure results of evidence-based assessment is documented in Case Management plan, input into ARMS and provided to the Community Based Provider.
- Attend workshops, meetings, and trainings as requested by supervisor.
- May serve as Community Advocate role in addition to job as requested by community leadership.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required:
- Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent AND a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with criminal justice populations in the provision of case management services.

- Understanding of causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse.
- Recognition of the importance of individual differences created by personalities, cultures, lifestyles, social networks, and other factors that influence behavior. Demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge to treatment practices.
- Understand an array of treatment modalities available to participants and maintain a current awareness of availability for placement within each treatment paradigm.
- Ability to integrate and align treatment options with institutional recommendations, participant indications, and the results of the evidence-based assessment tool.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in the community and within the organization.
- Understand and appropriately apply Amity policies and procedures and adhere to agencywide practices and regulations.
- Protect program participants’ health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of records and participant information.
- As an interface between institutional and community settings, an attitude of appropriate advocacy for participants is essential.
- Model professionalism, effective work habits and responsible living.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally adjusts or moves objects up to 50lbs. in all directions.
- Constantly remains in a stationary position often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Repeats motions that may include the wrists, hands and / or fingers.
- Constantly moves from one work yard to another daily.
- Frequently walks on hard or uneven surfaces.
- Required to communicate verbally and in written form.
- Uses all types of vision, such as close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, to complete daily tasks.
- Assesses the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Occasionally required to climb, bend, stretch, reach or stoop.
- Required to wear comfortable and location appropriate clothing and shoes.
- Ability to change directions as a priorities shift.
- Ability to thrive in environment that require the ability to adapt to changing circumstances,
- Ability to cope with occasionally difficult or temperamental students and faculty.
- Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress related to the position.
- Generally, in an indoor setting.
- Occasionally works in outdoor elements such as precipitation, snow, and wind.
- Work is in an incarcerated setting.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud.
- The temperature in the work environment is generally moderate, however can range from hot to cold seasonally.
- Seldom may be exposed to non-lethal chemical agents as administered in necessary use of force security instances.
- Occasionally travels locally and operates motor vehicles.
