Director of Supply Chain
Quick Summary
roadmaps, quarterly business reviews and performance against agreed cost, yield and delivery. • Identify, audit and qualify new CMs to add capacity and geographic diversity.
We are looking for a Head of Supply Chain to build and lead the team that sources our cell materials, manages our contract manufacturers (CMs) and controls the landed cost of every cell we ship. You will turn a lean team into a scalable organization, set the supply strategy for current and next-generation products, and make sure our supply base is resilient, compliant and cost-competitive as volumes grow. Reporting to Managing Director, Operations.
Responsibilities
~1 min read• Own the sourcing strategy for all direct cell materials (anode, cathode, electrolyte, separator, packaging and mechanical parts).
• Run competitive RFQs and keep a documented roadmap with every critical supplier, aligned with Engineering BOMs and demand volumes.
• Negotiate and execute long-term supply agreements (LTSAs) and pricing agreements covering most material spend.
• Qualify second sources for critical materials and maintain business continuity plans for any remaining single-source parts.
• Make sure suppliers on government and defense programs meet NDAA and related sourcing requirements.
• Manage our global CM network: roadmaps, quarterly business reviews and performance against agreed cost, yield and delivery.
• Identify, audit and qualify new CMs to add capacity and geographic diversity.
• Negotiate CM agreements that define the business model, costs and schedules, and how they change over time.
• Partner with R&D and the Fremont pilot line to transfer new cell designs into CM production.
• Build and present a capacity and geography plan that covers the 1-year and quarterly demand forecast.
• Own the landed cell cost roadmap: CM costs, materials, freight, tariffs and duties.
• Lead cost-reduction programs with suppliers and CMs, with priority on programs that are not yet profitable.
• Build a tariff and duty mitigation strategy with Finance and Legal.
• Hire, develop and retain a high-performing supply chain team, with clear ownership and backup coverage.
• Work with Quality on supplier and CM scorecards and corrective actions, and represent Supply Chain in the PLM and change control rollout.
• Three suppliers quoted for 100% of direct materials on priority programs, with reviews in place for each.
• At least 90% of material spend under contract; 8 of 11 critical materials dual-sourced; business continuity plans for the rest.
• Two new CMs qualified, and agreements in place with 100% of active CMs.
• Landed cost on the highest-cost CM programs down 5%, with a quarterly cost roadmap for every product.
Requirements
~1 min read• Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain, business or a related field.
• 12+ years in supply chain, sourcing or procurement for manufactured hardware, including 5+ years leading teams.
• Direct experience managing contract manufacturers through qualification, ramp and volume production.
• Track record negotiating long-term supply and manufacturing agreements.
• Strong cost analysis skills: should-cost models, landed cost, tariffs and duties.
• Experience managing suppliers in Asia.
• Travel: 30% including Asia and Europe
Nice to Have
~1 min read• Lithium-ion cells, batteries strongly preferred or other materials-intensive manufacturing.
• Aerospace or defense supply chains (AS9100, NDAA, DFARS, ITAR).
• Experience building a supply chain function at a scaling company; MBA, ASCM or ISM certification a plus.
