Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Operate C-arm fluoroscopy and/or portable X-ray equipment during surgical procedures (e.g., orthopedic, pain management, spine cases)
- →Position patients and equipment to obtain accurate diagnostic images per physician direction
- →Ensure radiation safety practices (ALARA principles) for patients, staff, and self; monitor and document radiation exposure
- →Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot imaging equipment; coordinate service/repairs with vendors
- →Verify physician orders and confirm correct patient, procedure, and site (supports Universal Protocol/Time Out)
- →Maintain accurate imaging records and ensure compliance with state radiology licensure and facility policies
- →Assist with equipment setup/breakdown and OR turnover between cases
- →Participate in quality assurance activities, including equipment testing and radiation safety audits
- →Adhere to infection control, sterile field, and OSHA/OSHA-related safety standards
- →Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR staff to ensure efficient case flow
- →Maintain required certifications and continuing education
Requirements
~1 min read- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
- Current state license/registration as a Radiologic Technologist (or state-specific equivalent)
- ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification required
- BLS certification required (ACLS may be preferred depending on case mix)
- Prior experience in an OR, surgery center, or interventional setting strongly preferred
- Knowledge of radiation safety standards and sterile technique
- Ability to stand for extended periods, wear lead aprons (10–15+ lbs) for full case duration
- Ability to lift/move equipment and assist with patient positioning
- Manual dexterity for equipment operation in sterile environments
- Operating room setting with exposure to radiation (mitigated by protective equipment), bodily fluids, and sterile field protocols
- PRN scheduling depending on case volume; may require early morning start times
