The Public Assistance Supervisor leads a team committed to delivering public assistance programs that uphold dignity and promote self-sufficiency. This role focuses on creating effective policies, streamlining workflows, and guiding staff to ensure services are accurate, compliant, and responsive to community needs. Collaboration and innovation are key to maintaining high standards and improving program outcomes while staying true to the department’s mission of providing effective services that empower individuals and families.
Beyond daily operations, the supervisor champions continuous improvement through program evaluations, quality assurance, and legislative analysis. By fostering a supportive and accountable environment, this position ensures resources are used effectively and services help clients achieve greater independence.

This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position. Interviews will take place the week of September 14th, 2026 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.
What We Offer
~1 min read- This position is located at the Anoka County Blaine Human Services Center, 1201 89th Ave NE, Blaine. Hybrid remote options are available.
- Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Requires a bachelor’s degree and three years (2,080 annual hours) of full-time job-related experience determining eligibility for public assistance programs.
- In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Requirements
~2 min read- Three years or more of full-time (2,080 annual hours) experience working in a Minnesota County Economic Assistance Department in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Five years or more of full-time (2,080 annual hours) experience working directly with public assistance programs.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Behavioral Science, Human Services, Education, or related field
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop staff to achieve organizational goals.
- Strong knowledge of public assistance policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Ability to interpret, apply, and communicate complex laws, rules, and written instructions effectively.
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency in using technology and data systems to manage workflows and monitor program performance.
- Ability to foster collaboration and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, external partners, and diverse populations.
Anoka County has determined that successfully passing a pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen and DOT physical, and/or other qualifications checks may be necessary for certain positions. - Standard office environment
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness.
- Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds.
- Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work
- Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
- Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment.
- Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
