~1 min readThe Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety, environmental, and occupational health programs within a large detention facility. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and Maryland safety standards. The EHS Manager leads safety inspections, emergency preparedness activities, hazardous‑materials management, and life‑safety system oversight to ensure a safe and compliant environment for staff, contractors, and detainees. This position includes 24/7 coverage, and may include overnight shifts, evenings, weekends, and holiday coverage.

- →Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and Maryland correctional standards.

- →Develop, implement, and maintain the facility’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Program.

- →Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions to mitigate hazards.

- →Maintain all required permits, certifications, and regulatory documentation.
- →Safety Data Sheets (SDS) & Hazardous Materials Management

- →Maintain an up‑to‑date Safety Data Sheet (SDS) library for all chemicals and hazardous materials used within the facility.

- →Ensure proper storage, labeling, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and EPA requirements.

- →Train staff on chemical safety, PPE use, and emergency response procedures.

- →Oversee hazardous‑materials spill response and containment procedures.
