About the opportunity

Our commercial property team acts on complex, high-value transactions across New Zealand.  Our work includes major development and urban regeneration projects, investment acquisitions and disposals, significant leasing portfolios and transactions involving hotels and retirement villages.  We advise an impressive client base including NZX listed companies, developers, institutional and private investors, major landlords, financiers and property based operating businesses.

Based in Tāmaki Makaurau, you'll provide high quality, commercially astute legal advice across the full spectrum of commercial property matters, including property investment, development, acquisitions and leasing, together with the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in hotels and retirement villages.

You'll work closely with partners and clients from an early stage, helping to structure transactions, identify the issues that matter commercially and carry them through to completion.  You'll have genuine responsibility, direct client contact and the support to keep extending your technical and commercial judgement.

About you 

You'll be admitted to practise in New Zealand and have at least 3–6 years' experience, with a strong grounding in commercial property.  You may already have experience in development, investment, leasing or property finance, but you do not need to have covered every area.  More important is an interest in sophisticated transactions and a genuine appetite to build expertise in hotels, retirement villages and other property-backed businesses.

A commercial and pragmatic approach comes naturally to you, and you're confident working autonomously.  You combine careful drafting and technical discipline with practical, responsive advice and providing an exceptional client experience.

You are comfortable taking ownership of matters and working autonomously with appropriate support.  You build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues, communicate clearly and enjoy contributing to a high-performing team.  Depending on your level, you'll also have the opportunity to supervise and help develop junior lawyers.
