We're hiring a policy generalist to join the Strategic Advisory team within Anthropic's Public Policy team. You'll develop and maintain our policy research strategy and lead the research behind it, to strengthen Anthropic's policy influence in Washington and around the world.

You'll lead the research that backs up Anthropic's policy positions: deciding what evidence a position needs, working with Anthropic's research teams on what our own data can show, building partnerships with outside academics, think tanks and economists, and managing our growing body of commissioned research and economic impact work. You'll turn that research into analysis and materials our federal, state and international teams can use. You'll also run the cross-functional processes that take an open policy question to an agreed, evidence-backed position. As Anthropic's international footprint grows, you'll help the team scale its research and support for markets outside the US.

You're likely a strong generalist who likes to build things and see them through, and who gets energy from turning complex research into something clear, organized and useful. You're curious and rigorous about evidence. You ask what would change a skeptic's mind, you can tell a strong study from a weak one, and you know when to bring in a subject matter expert. You have good judgment, you take initiative, and you're comfortable when the path isn't defined yet. You can run several research projects and outside partners at once while keeping track of how they connect.

• →Run policy development processes from open question to agreed position: frame the question, bring in the right experts from research, legal, communications and regional policy teams, work through disagreements, and get to a decision
• →Develop research plans for priority issue areas: what evidence would strengthen or test a position, what Anthropic's own data and research can show, and where an outside partner is the right source
• →Work with Anthropic's research teams, including economics research, Societal Impacts and the Frontier Red Team, to turn their findings into material policymakers can use
• →Manage commissioned research from scoping through publication, and build partnerships with outside academics, think tanks, economists and consultancies
• →Own economic impact reports and the narratives that go with them for markets around the world
• →Anticipate emerging policy issues and work with internal experts to develop Anthropic's perspective and supporting materials before external pressure builds
• →Scale the team's support for international markets: adapt strategy and materials for different governments, and build templates and processes so each new market is faster than the last
• →Draft briefings, talking points and other materials on short timelines, coordinating with policy communications so messaging stays consistent

• A track record of driving cross-functional projects to a decision or finished product, including getting people with competing interests to agreement when you don't manage them
• Experience as a policy generalist across several issue areas, including designing and carrying out policy research and turning it into policy proposals or positions
• Ability to scope a research question, work with economists, academics and other experts to answer it, and judge the quality of their evidence and methods, for example through economic consulting, a policy research organization, or an in-house research team
• Excellent writing: you can turn complex technical or economic material into clear, concise memos, briefings and talking points for different audiences
• An understanding of how a company's commercial interests and its policy positions fit together
• Strong organization and project management, including running several projects and outside partners at once
• A record of working independently, taking ownership of problems, and driving next steps and deliverables without being prompted
• A collaborative, low-ego approach: you pitch in wherever the work needs you and share credit readily
• Interest in AI policy and alignment with Anthropic's mission to develop AI that is safe and beneficial

• 5+ years of professional experience in technology policy, public affairs, consulting or a related field
• Experience on an in-house technology policy team, in corporate public affairs, or in management or economic consulting, especially public sector or policy practices
• Experience managing outside vendors, research partners or commissioned studies, including economic impact studies
• A background in AI or technology policy
• Relationships with academics, think tanks or research organizations working on AI or technology policy
• Experience with international policy or supporting teams in multiple countries
• Training in economics or quantitative methods

Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience

Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
