Optical Module & Device Integration Manager

Summary

AOI is seeking a Manager of Optical Module & Device Integration. This role will build and lead an engineering team and work with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and reliability teams to improve product performance, support new product introduction, and resolve integration issues.

Candidates with strength in one or a few relevant technical areas and the ability to lead cross-functional work are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead an integration team supporting optical modules and devices from development through production.
• Manage team staffing, workload, and performance, including hiring, setting individual goals, coaching engineers, and conducting performance reviews.
• Coordinate with device, optical, electrical, and packaging engineers to address integration challenges and meet product requirements.
• Lead troubleshooting of performance, assembly, yield, and reliability issues using test data and structured problem-solving.
• Support new product introduction, process transfer, and manufacturing readiness, including assembly and test requirements.
• Establish project priorities, track improvement activities, and communicate technical progress across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, optics, physics, materials science, or a related field, with relevant industry experience.
• Practical experience in one or more of the following areas: optical devices; optical module or transceiver development; optical alignment and packaging; high-speed electrical or optical testing; manufacturing integration, yield improvement, or reliability.
• Ability to analyze technical problems and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
• Experience leading an engineering team or technical projects, with demonstrated ability to delegate work, provide feedback, and develop team members. Technical leaders ready to move into formal people management are welcome.
• Clear communication, a collaborative approach, and willingness to learn beyond their primary area of expertise.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with InP lasers, photodetectors, modulators, silicon photonics, TOSA/ROSA, optical engines, or transceiver manufacturing.
• Experience in high-volume manufacturing, including production ramp-up, yield improvement, or process control.

Location

This position will be on-site based in Sugar Land, Texas.
