The APP Manager will oversee a team of advanced practice providers, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants, who play a critical role in delivering exceptional patient care in our oncology department. This individual will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the highest quality of care delivery, adherence to protocols, and alignment with organizational goals. The APP manager will also function as an APP with general functions of an APP such as: promotes and maintains health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician. In this role, assessment, communication skills, and problems solving techniques are used to deliver quality care and to facilitate physician productivity. This highly respected role is also incremental in acting as a liaison for oncology patients and working in concert with clinic and case management staff in order to meet the clinical needs of patients.

  • Deliver comprehensive oncology care through assessment, diagnosis support, treatment, and follow-up under physician supervision or collaboratively.

  • Perform physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and provide therapeutic interventions including injections, immunizations, and wound/infection management.

  • Develop and implement patient management and wellness plans, including genetic counseling and specialty programs as referred.

  • Educate and counsel patients and families on treatment plans, symptom management, and daily living concerns.

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation in all required systems.

  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop advanced practice providers and assigned support staff to maintain a high-performing, collaborative team.

  • Provide coaching, corrective counseling, performance feedback, and professional development support.

  • Conduct regular team meetings and leader rounding to assess concerns, reinforce standards, and strengthen engagement.

  • Direct, delegate, and supervise clinical and operational tasks to ensure effective service delivery.

  • Promote staff education and knowledge sharing on new therapies, procedures, and clinical practices.

  • Establish and maintain quality assurance measures to monitor APP clinical performance and patient care outcomes.

  • Identify improvement opportunities and implement corrective action and best-practice enhancements.

  • Develop and deliver ongoing APP education and competency programs in oncology care and emerging treatments.

  • Promote evidence-based practice and continuous clinical improvement across the APP team.

  • Maintain personal clinical competency through continuing education and professional engagement.

  • Coordinate patient care activities including scheduling, consults, referrals, and follow-up to ensure continuity and patient-centered care.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes and workflow efficiency.

  • Support therapy areas and physician patient panels when physicians are unavailable.

  • Establish and support cross-provider wellness and population health initiatives.

  • Strengthen interdisciplinary communication and care integration across sites and services.

  • Ensure compliance with clinical standards, licensure requirements, regulatory rules, and organizational policies.

  • Maintain safe, clean clinical environments and enforce infection control protocols.

  • Support appropriate staffing coverage and effective use of clinical resources, supplies, and equipment.

  • Monitor operational practices and recommend process improvements and innovations in oncology care delivery.

  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Clinical Director.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from an accredited program.

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in oncology care, with demonstrated proficiency in managing complex oncology patients.

  • Minimum of 1 year clinical supervisor experience

  • Previous leadership or management experience preferred, with a proven track record of team building, mentorship, and performance management.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and promote a culture of teamwork and excellence.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment, with a commitment to quality, safety, and patient-centered care.

  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Active RN license as required by the state of Texas.

  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in Texas.

  • Board certification as an Advanced Practice Provider in Oncology preferred.
