Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Quality Technician to help us deliver consistently high-quality products within our manufacturing operation. You will inspect incoming materials, in-process assemblies and finished products, manage non-conforming material and support investigations and continuous improvement. Working closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain and Quality colleagues, you will help ensure our products meet customer, regulatory, IPC and internal quality requirements.

What you’ll be doing

  • Carry out incoming, in-process and final inspections on PCB assemblies, metal assemblies and finished products.
  • Complete visual, dimensional and functional inspections against drawings, specifications, control plans and work instructions.
  • Identify and control non-conforming material, including segregation, labelling and status control.
  • Raise and maintain non-conformance reports, defect records and quality alerts.
  • Support failure analysis and root cause investigations using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone and 8D.
  • Help verify that corrective and preventive actions have been implemented and are effective.
  • Support process, product and layered process audits.
  • Monitor and report quality measures, including defect trends, scrap, rework and first-pass yield.
  • Help ensure measuring and test equipment remains within calibration.
  • Work collaboratively across Production, Engineering, Supply Chain and Supplier Quality to resolve issues and maintain standards.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in a manufacturing, quality inspection or production environment.
  • Confidence reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and inspection criteria.
  • Practical experience of visual, dimensional and functional inspection.
  • Knowledge of non-conformance control, containment and defect reporting.
  • A good understanding of problem-solving tools such as 5 Why and Fishbone analysis.
  • An NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent practical experience in engineering, manufacturing or quality.
  • Knowledge of IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001 or ISO 9001 would be an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and clear communication skills.

What we can offer you

In return for everything you bring to the table, we can ensure an exciting, challenging role in a dynamic business surrounded by some of the best people in their respective fields.

At Motion Applied we firmly believe it’s the relationships and friendships we create while working that make us special. We’re also aware that the world is changing and we are part of that change. We all want and need different things from our work and home lives, so, if you have commitments outside of work, we’re open to talking through flexible working options that work for you and us.

  • Annual leave (25 days + bank holidays, pro-rated for part time colleagues).
  • Enhanced Company Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave and pay.
  • Life assurance to the value of 4 times base salary
  • Opportunity to join the Motion Applied Pension Plan
  • Company funded individual private healthcare with the opportunity to extend to partner or spouse and/or dependents at a discounted rate.
  • Electric car scheme – opportunity to drive a brand-new car in a more affordable way through this salary sacrifice scheme. Employees are eligible to join the scheme after successful competition of their probationary period.
