Service Writer Job Description
New England Truck Center, Exeter, NH  Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt  · $26-$32 per hour based on experience.

About the Role
Our Service Writer is the first person a customer talks to when their truck comes into our shop, and the person who keeps the job moving until it goes back out. You’ll handle intake, estimates, and approvals, coordinate with the shop and parts teams, and keep customers updated from drop-off to pickup. If you know diesel equipment, communicate well, and can keep a busy service counter organized, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do
  • Answer service calls and emails, and schedule incoming work
  • Check vehicles in: do the walk-around, complete the intake, and document the customer’s concerns
  • Work with the Shop Manager to plan workflow, timing, and priorities
  • Build estimates and timelines, and get customer authorization before work starts
  • Make sure technicians have complete, up-to-date work orders
  • Coordinate parts with the Parts Department, including special orders and core returns
  • Keep customers updated as the repair progresses, and contact them at completion with a summary of work and final pricing
  • Close out work orders with complete notes in internal system.
  • Support inventory: weekly parts counts and restocking as needed
  • Keep the service office organized
What You Bring
  • Service writer, service advisor, or parts counter experience in a truck, diesel, or automotive shop (diesel preferred)
  • Working knowledge of diesel and gas vehicle repair
  • Strong customer service skills, including delivering bad news on cost or timing clearly and calmly
  • Ability to juggle multiple open jobs without letting details drop
  • Comfortable with computers and shop software; Microsoft Office experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A degree, diploma, or certificate in diesel technology is a plus
Schedule
Monday–Friday, within shop hours of 7:00 AM–5:00 PM.

What We Offer
  • Medical, dental and vision plans
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Life & disability coverage
  • Paid time off
  • Six company paid holidays

Physical Requirements
Sitting, standing, and walking throughout the shop; getting in and out of trucks during walk-arounds; working around running diesel and gas vehicles; occasionally lifting up to 25 lbs.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Offers are contingent on a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
