Arconic is currently in search of LEAD PRODUCT METALLURIGICAL ENGINEER to join our Quality Department in Alcoa, TN.

The Lead Product Metallurgical Engineer is a tenured quality professional with a deep understanding of the product flow through the Tennessee Operations plant and through customer operations. The Lead Product Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for product specifications, product qualifications (including new products), and overall product quality. This position reports directly to the Quality Manager and supervises the Product Metallurgical Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
- Coach and train reports on product requirements, customer specification review, and specification flow down as well as mentor on effective customer technical support and handling customer claims.
- Hold team members accountable for performance and consistently models, reinforces, and ensures adherence to organizational values, policies, and expected behaviors.
- Establish performance goals consistent with business unit objectives, department objectives, and operations.
- Interface with the Commercial Sales, Application Engineering, and Field Service groups as the product single point accountability (SPA) and provide excellent customer service support.
- Work with the appropriate Process Managers to determine root cause solutions and corrective actions (CAR) issued to them by customers, and work with the Process Managers/production areas to implement area CAR and update process control points/variables as needed.
- Ensure critical and key product characteristics are in control and capable.
- Support business objectives related to Safety and waste elimination (accident prevention, product recovery, and optimal flow path)
- Maintain the overall QFD, CP, and FMEA and linkages between the customer’s needs and process.
- Support integrity of Customer specification reviews and Material Master accuracy – “the recipe”.
- Drive and manage both customer and internal projects for technical changes to product or process, internal and external product efficiency changes, equipment qualifications, and new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with Production to develop new production and change management for the location.
- Mentor, train and assist plant-based metallurgists, Quality Process Leaders, Technical Assistants, Area Coordinators and Superintendents, and plant Lead Team members.
- Drive and lead product performance problem-solving teams across multiple disciplines.
- Resolve customer quality issues efficiently and negotiate/process claims.
Support Arconic Tennessee Quality Management System and maintenance of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949
Also note:
- This role reports to the Quality Manager. This role may require travel up to 10%.
You have: (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution at time of hire
- 8 years of experience in the metals industry
- Business experience in direct contact with suppliers or internal/external customers.
- Business experience in participating in Quality Control systems.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Exceptional Candidates also have: (preferred)
- 3+ years supervisory experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal & written).
- Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Experience and knowledge of metallurgy and metal-forming.
- Working knowledge of aluminum association standards, alloys, and tempers.
- Experience with automotive aluminum applications in a manufacturing setting.
- Manufacturing within and IATF and ISO Quality systems environment.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and or Six Sigma certification.
- Ability to exert physical labor for multiple hours/day (production line observations).
- Ability to travel to assigned customer locations. Must be willing to travel on short notice; most travel will be pre-planned.
