The HR Manager also works very closely with the business unit HR team; building employee engagement by driving the development and attainment of business strategies and plans through strategic HR planning, change management, organizational design and talent management. At times, the incumbent will collaborate with the GRP Human Resources Managers across the BCS system to achieve strategic and tactical plans.
The job of Human Resources Manager presents an excellent opportunity for a proven HR leader. The position reports to the Global HR Director with a strong dotted line to the plant manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Build the plant’s leadership team and HR function and lead change through organization design. Must have excellent business acumen and proactively serve as a resource to the management team.
Serve as a Strategic Business HR partner and develop plans in tandem with functional HR processes.
Co-lead relationship with the Union, ensuring that all commitments of the collective bargaining agreement are met while engaging union members and leaders to have a business owner mentality, working together to solve business problems.
Develop, interpret and administer Arconic’s policy and procedures in the HR area.
Guide the Employee Relations strategy and manage overall culture at the plant to maintain positive employee relations in a union-free environment.
Serve as the “champion” of learning, organizational development, workforce and career planning and training. Must have solid HR skills, and be comfortable driving change in a union environment.
Lead the talent management efforts including succession planning, competency development, process planning, career planning, retention efforts, and development activities across the plant.
Support performance management initiatives and integrating balanced assessments, goal setting and development processes.
Compensation – communicate and coordinate the salary administration and variable compensation processes, conduct compensation reviews, provide consulting on compensation processes and structure, evaluate salaried and hourly jobs, follow the approval process.
Serve as the “in-house” communicator of best practices and industry/learning trends to plant and HR team.
Drive performance of the shop floor workforce to create and develop high-performance work teams.
Provide “leading-edge” orientation, “on-boarding” and employee communication processes in partnership with other lead team members.
Support and drive inclusion and diversity commitment. Understand, assess and develop solutions and tools to enhance recruitment, selection, retention of diversity candidates. Train, support and drive inclusion across plant in partnership with the various Employee Resource Groups at the facility.
Advice and counsel plant leaders and their staff on HR/employee issues and activities.
Understand and ensure compliance with local and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes governing HR processes.
Understand and apply lean manufacturing concepts to HR systems and problem-solving.
Recognize that accident prevention is equal in importance to production, quality, delivery, and cost control, and accept responsibility to work safely and to promote safety consciousness among fellow workers.
Support community activities and location grants/donations.

- Proven oral and written communications skills to convey information clearly and effectively. Solid listening skills to gather information for understanding.
- A solid knowledge of MS Office.
- A knowledge of process improvement techniques and demonstrated ability to increase value to customers through elimination of non-value-added work.
- Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources, determine issues and objectives, and develop strategies to address needs.
- Working knowledge of State and Federal wage and hour laws.
- Ability to pivot focus effectively in response to business needs.
- Effectively manage organizational changes driven by Arconic as well as at the plants.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University in Human Resources, Business Management or a related field.
- 5+ years of HR experience functioning as an HR manager, business partner or generalist
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a global organization
- 2 years of experience leading and directly managing others in a heavy manufacturing environment
- Broad HR generalist / business partner experience supporting a manufacturing organization.
- Experience leading and managing significant organizational change, organizational development and/or organizational effectiveness.
- Experience with talent management
- Good communication skills (both oral and written)
- Excellent interpersonal skills; can build solid and lasting relationships at all levels of the organization
Able to make difficult decisions and execute accordingly
