Metallurgical Engineering Specialist

The primary purpose of this role is to lead product and process continuous improvement efforts to improve manufacturing process yield (recovery), improve capacity, reduce cost, and reduce customer product claims.  The position also provides metallurgical technical support via problem solving support and training at multiple sites.

In this role, you will:

• Be a primary problem solver and solution implementor to improve the overall manufacturing process and eliminate waste, including:  
  • reduce process losses (unplanned and planned scrap)
  • improve operational capacity
  • reduce cost
  • reduce customer product claims

• Drive improvements at multiple organizational levels, including working with operations on the manufacturing shop floor. 

• Facilitate process and product problem solving efforts such as trial DOE development and management, data collection and analysis, Gemba Walks, and Kaizens.

• Implement systems to capture and retain gains, capture institutional knowledge, and enable continuous improvement.

• Work safely and support location EHS improvement efforts. 

Please note: this position requires 25% travel

You have (required):

• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, metallurgy, or materials science from an accredited institution

• 5 or more years in a metals manufacturing environment working in a technical or project management position, or equivalent

• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

• This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required to meet export control compliance requirements.

Exceptional Candidates also have: (preferred)

• 10+ years manufacturing quality experience.

• Led problem solving efforts to reduce manufacturing waste

• Ability to work independently and in teams to achieve company objectives Experience with aluminum raw material product processing, including rolling, thermal processing and finishing operations.

• Experience in industrial, aerospace, and automotive processes and products.
• Experience with customer engagement to address product performance issues and resolution of customer claims
• Knowledgeable in industry thermal processing standards in one or more of AMS 2750, AMS 2772, CQI-9
