Ares is seeking an Associate Vice President, Senior Full Stack Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of technology solutions powering the firm’s global credit investment platform.  

Reporting to the VP, Credit Engineering Lead, this role will serve as a senior individual contributor within the Credit Technology Engineering team, responsible for building scalable applications, APIs, data services, and platform capabilities across the credit investment lifecycle, including deal origination, underwriting, portfolio monitoring, risk management, and investment analytics.  

This is a highly hands-on engineering role. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute directly to software development while partnering with the Credit Engineering Lead on technical design, implementation standards, platform modernization, and software delivery best practices.  

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience building enterprise-grade applications within financial services environments, with expertise in modern full-stack development, cloud-native architectures, microservices, data platforms, messaging systems, and software engineering best practices. Experience supporting credit investment, lending, portfolio management, or alternative asset management platforms is strongly preferred.  

This individual will collaborate closely with Product Management, Credit Investment Professionals, Portfolio Management teams, Investment Operations, Data & AI teams, and broader Investment Technology stakeholders to deliver scalable, resilient, and high-performing technology solutions that support the firm’s growing credit business.

Supervises: No direct reports initially; may provide technical mentorship and project leadership to junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support software solutions supporting credit investment workflows.  
  • Contribute across front-end, backend, integration, and data layers.  
  • Build and maintain APIs, services, and user-facing applications supporting investment workflows.  
  • Participate actively in code reviews, design reviews, troubleshooting, and production support activities.  
  • Drive implementation of scalable and maintainable software solutions aligned with engineering standards.  
  • Partner with the VP, Credit Engineering Lead on architecture, system design, and technology decisions.  
  • Design application components supporting distributed and microservices-based architectures.  
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps and platform modernization initiatives.  
  • Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and development patterns.  
  • Ensure solutions meet requirements for scalability, performance, resiliency, security, and maintainability.  
  • Develop capabilities across credit deal management platforms, portfolio management solutions, credit analytics platforms, workflow automation solutions, investment data services and APIs, and reporting and analytics platforms.  
  • Support technology solutions for deal sourcing and pipeline management, underwriting workflows, investment committee processes, portfolio monitoring, risk analytics, investment reporting, and investment data management.  
  • Work with the Credit Engineering Lead to break down technical deliverables, estimate work, and execute delivery plans.  
  • Build and deploy applications utilizing cloud-native technologies.  
  • Implement containerized solutions leveraging Kubernetes and cloud platform services.  
  • Develop platform observability, logging, monitoring, and operational support capabilities.  
  • Support modernization initiatives focused on automation, scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency.  
  • Design and develop APIs and integration services.  
  • Build solutions utilizing messaging, event streaming, and asynchronous processing patterns.  
  • Support integration across investment platforms, reporting platforms, operational systems, and enterprise data environments.  
  • Partner with Data & AI teams to support high-quality data flows, analytics, and reporting capabilities.  
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle.  
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, release management processes, and deployment standards.  
  • Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and operational support.  
  • Support implementation of DevOps practices, engineering controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.  
  • Mentor Associate and Analyst software engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and technical coaching.  
  • Serve as a senior technical contributor across development initiatives.  
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, Investment Technology, and business stakeholders.  
  • Promote engineering excellence, ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across the team.

• 5-8 years of software engineering experience delivering enterprise applications. 

• Experience contributing to large-scale software delivery initiatives. 

• Experience developing software solutions within complex business environments. 

• Experience operating within Agile software development organizations. 

• Experience collaborating with cross-functional technical and business teams. 

• Experience supporting production applications and participating in operational support activities. 

• Financial services experience strongly preferred. 

• Experience supporting investment management, capital markets, lending, credit, or alternative asset management platforms preferred. 

• Experience mentoring developers or providing technical leadership across development initiatives. 

• Advanced proficiency in Java/Python and modern backend development frameworks. 

• Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript. 

• Strong experience with relational and non-relational databases. 

• Strong understanding of APIs, integration patterns, and service-oriented architectures. 

• Strong understanding of microservices and distributed systems. 

• Experience implementing event-driven architectures. 

• Experience with messaging and streaming technologies. 

• Experience with cloud-native application development. 

• Experience utilizing Kubernetes and containerized platforms. 

• Strong understanding of software design patterns and engineering best practices. 

• Experience with SDLC, CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps tooling. 

• Strong debugging, performance tuning, and troubleshooting capabilities. 

• Strong focus on maintainability, quality, documentation, and operational excellence. 

• Strong technical communication skills. 

• Ability to mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and technical guidance. 

• Ability to influence technical decisions through subject matter expertise. 

• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and business teams. 

• Strong ownership mentality, accountability, and delivery focus. 

• Familiarity with DealCloud, or other pipeline management systems, credit systems such as Allvue. WSO is a big plus.

What We Offer

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$200,000 - $215,000
