Despite its name, Camp Baer is not a traditional camp. It is a premier residential substance use disorder treatment center located in a chalet-style lodge nestled within the wooded mountains of West Virginia.
Designed to provide a private, restorative environment for healing, Camp Baer delivers high-quality, evidence-based substance use disorder and behavioral health treatment to individuals from across the country. The setting combines exceptional clinical care with the tranquility and privacy of a retreat-style environment.

What You’ll Do
As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will provide hands-on nursing care to patients receiving detoxification, residential substance use disorder treatment, and behavioral health services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders, facility protocols, and applicable regulations.
- Monitor patients throughout detoxification and residential treatment.
- Observe, assess, and report changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse, nurse practitioner, physician, or other appropriate provider.
- Assist with nursing assessments, admissions, ongoing patient monitoring, and discharge-related care as appropriate within scope.
- Obtain and document vital signs and other clinical observations.
- Support withdrawal-management protocols and medication-assisted treatment as ordered.
- Provide patient education related to medications, wellness, recovery, and ongoing health needs.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
- Respond appropriately to medical emergencies, behavioral emergencies, and crisis situations.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, therapists, behavioral health technicians, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Maintain medication security and follow all applicable controlled-substance procedures.
- Follow infection-prevention, patient-safety, emergency-response, and facility protocols.
- Protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational requirements.
- Support compliance with Joint Commission standards, state licensing requirements, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation expectations.
- Promote a safe, therapeutic, trauma-informed environment for patients and team members.
- Participate in training, competency validation, and ongoing quality and safety initiatives.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
- Current, unrestricted West Virginia Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or valid multistate nursing privilege, if applicable.
- Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.
- Ability to successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and patient-care skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Ability to maintain all required licenses, certifications, competencies, and organizational training.
- Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in detoxification, behavioral health, addiction medicine, residential treatment, psychiatric nursing, long-term care, medical-surgical nursing, corrections, or a related healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medication-assisted treatment.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Familiarity with withdrawal-management protocols.
- Experience with trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care.
- Experience working within Joint Commission-accredited or highly regulated healthcare environments.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
This is an on-site position within a residential behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment environment.
The role may require:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Bending, reaching, and routine physical movement throughout the facility.
- Direct interaction with patients throughout the shift.
- Responding quickly to medical or behavioral emergencies.
- Working with patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, behavioral health concerns, emotional distress, or crisis situations.
- Maintaining emotional resilience, situational awareness, and sound professional judgment in a fast-paced clinical environment.
