Despite its name, Camp Baer is not a traditional camp. It is a premier residential substance use disorder treatment center located in a chalet-style lodge nestled within the wooded mountains of West Virginia.

Designed to provide a private, restorative environment for healing, Camp Baer delivers high-quality, evidence-based substance use disorder and behavioral health treatment to individuals from across the country. The setting combines exceptional clinical care with the tranquility and privacy of a retreat-style environment.

What You’ll Do

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct nursing care to patients receiving substance use disorder and behavioral health treatment while helping maintain a safe, supportive, and clinically sound treatment environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct nursing assessments and monitor patients throughout treatment.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders, facility protocols, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor patients for withdrawal symptoms and identify changes in medical or behavioral condition.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, nursing assessments, and clinical observations.
  • Promptly communicate significant changes in patient condition to the appropriate medical provider.
  • Support medication-assisted treatment and withdrawal-management protocols as ordered.
  • Provide patient education related to medications, treatment, recovery, wellness, and ongoing health needs.
  • Respond appropriately to medical and behavioral emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, communication, and care coordination.
  • Collaborate closely with nurse practitioners, physicians, therapists, behavioral health technicians, case managers, and other members of the treatment team.
  • Maintain medication security and follow all controlled-substance procedures.
  • Follow infection-prevention, patient-safety, emergency-response, and facility protocols.
  • Protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and organizational requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission standards, state licensing requirements, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation expectations.
  • Support the facility’s medication administration program and medication-safety practices.
  • Complete qualifications necessary to support Approved Medication Assistive Personnel (AMAP) training and competency validation for eligible team members, as applicable.
  • Provide education, coaching, and oversight related to medication administration within authorized scope.
  • Assist facility leadership with AMAP training, competency validation, and ongoing compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current, unrestricted West Virginia Registered Nurse license or valid multistate nursing privilege.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Ability to maintain all required licenses, certifications, competencies, and organizational training.
  • Willingness and ability to complete required training and become an Approved Medication Assistive Personnel (AMAP) instructor/trainer, as applicable to the role and West Virginia requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, detoxification, residential treatment, psychiatric nursing, or a related clinical environment.
  • Experience with withdrawal-management protocols.
  • Experience supporting medication-assisted treatment.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care.
  • Experience working within Joint Commission-accredited or highly regulated healthcare environments.

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

This is an on-site position within a residential behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment environment.

The role may require:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Bending, reaching, and routine physical movement throughout the facility.
  • Direct interaction with patients throughout the shift.
  • Responding quickly to medical or behavioral emergencies.
  • Working with patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, behavioral health concerns, emotional distress, or crisis situations.
  • Maintaining emotional resilience, situational awareness, and sound professional judgment in a fast-paced clinical environment.
