Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to the position. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed:

  • →Instruct and lead McFetridge Sports Center tennis and pickleball classes, utilizing knowledge of fundamental skills, techniques, and terminology.
  • →Assist with maintaining and improving the quality and consistency of tennis and pickleball instruction across department staff.
  • →Provide in-house training and professional development opportunities for instructional staff and coordinate staff participation in relevant seminars or educational programs.
  • →Collaborate with the Tennis Coordinator on staff scheduling and program assignments.
  • →Under the direction of the Tennis Coordinator, assist with organizing and operating the Junior Team Tennis (JTT) Program.
  • →Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment that encourages participants to enjoy tennis and pickleball for recreation, fitness, and skill development.
  • →Provide instructional coverage when staff members are unavailable due to vacation, illness, or other scheduling conflicts.
  • →Complete administrative responsibilities related to department programming, including, but not limited to:
    • →Communicating professionally with patrons, participants, and parents/guardians.
    • →Composing emails and preparing documents related to the JTT Program.
    • →Maintaining inventory and monitoring department supplies.
    • →Providing professional and courteous customer service and interaction with patrons and members of the public.
  • →Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Tennis Coordinator.

The successful candidate must be able to:

  • Maintain a positive, professional, and customer-focused attitude when interacting with clients, patrons, staff, and management.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Utilize computer systems and software effectively.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Maintain punctuality and reliability.
  • Work a flexible schedule based on programming and operational needs.
  • Adapt to changing circumstances and respond effectively to situations as they arise.
  • Develop and implement age- and skill-appropriate lesson plans.
  • Follow and enforce all applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Remain physically active and stand on the court for extended periods of time, including approximately 4–6 hours at a time.

 

Requirements

Candidates should have coaching and instructional experience in the following areas:

  • 10 and Under Tennis, including Red, Orange, and Green Ball programming.
  • Junior Development programs.
  • Adult tennis classes, clinics, and/or workshops.
  • PTR or USPTA Level 1 certification or higher, with current certification required.
  • Experience organizing leagues, tournaments, and/or Junior Team Tennis programs is preferred.
  • Approximately 25–30 hours per week.
  • Evening and weekend availability is required.
  • Schedule will vary based on program sessions, classes, and facility needs.
  • Must be willing to adjust hours and provide instructional coverage as needed.
